June 20th and 21st @ a new seawall in Samcheonpo!

I think I've managed to convince a few members of the KOTR crew to join me down in Samcheonpo (Sacheon city) next weekend to pay a visit to a new seaside crag.

Jinneol Hae ("Sea") Byeok ("Wall") (진널해벽) is a new seawall the Sacheon and Samcheonpo locals put up this summer. It's small (the make-shift route map a Korean friend of mine sent me shows only 7 routes), but it's close to home (for me), and is rumoured to offer some deep water free-solo potential.

I'll add an addendum or two to this thread with maps, tide tables and the like later in the day/week... But now, time to steel myself for a return to the daily grind.

More soon.

The crag ("diving/bouldering" is the area circled on the right):

Its location in Samcheonpo:

Where in the world is Samcheonpo (I live 20 minutes northwest of Jinju)?

Last (for now), a tide table:

It looks as though the tides aren't exactly on our side this coming weekend (high at 6:30am and 7:30pm Saturday and at 7:30am and 8:20pm Sunday), but I'm sure it'll be warm enough for an evening dip on Saturday.

AND... a friend of mine has a small inflatable dinghy she *may* let us use ...

These are the times for the bus from Busan to Samcheonpo. The bus leaves from Seobu 서부, which is at 사상 subway station.

I'm thinking of heading down on Friday evening and camping on the beach.

Here's a revised route-map with ratings.

A crew of 10 of us (mostly Jinju locals) will be heading to Namildae beach (a stone's throw from the crag) to camp. Some will head down Friday night, the rest early Saturday morning.

It goes without saying that it's going to be a great weekend, so feel free to come on down and join us.

Have you seen the forecast for the weekend?

Looks like it's going to piss it down.

Not looking all that great, is it? ... and the PoP keeps climbing the closer we get to the weekend.

As with any other climbing trip, the plan is (obviously) contingent on compatible weather. In my experience, weather forecasts in Korea are notoriously unreliable... so we'll say, at least for now, that the plan's still a "go".

That said, this is the start of "rainy season" so there's a good chance that it will, in fact, rain all weekend.

Andy, care to join me in an Anti-rain Dance?

Nick: I dance all day at work, anyway.

Will: I'm hopefully still going down on Friday, but not sure what time. I'm playing school volleyball at 4pm. So, maybe I'll make it about 6:45.
