The Daejeon Climbing Center is a fairly large bouldering gym. It has lots of space and plenty of walls for beginners through advanced climbers. It boasts a couple ceilings and caves, a small weight room and stretching room, lockers, showers and about 15 different walls of varying sizes.

Everyone here is super friendly and usually organize weekend trips when the weather is good. The owner's name is Han Sang Hun.

Monday - Friday : 16:00 ~ 23:00
Saturday: 14:00 ~ 18:00

Middle/High School Students: 30,000
University Students: 40,000
Regular: 50,000
Daily: 5,000

It's a tough place to explain how to get to now that one of the large landmarks has been destroyed. But most taxi drivers now the landmark and can still take you there so that's what i will give directions for.

Ask them to take you to Gyeong Seong Sports with the proper Korean pronunciation of 'sports'. If you get dropped off at the old sports building and you are looking at the building from the outside, walk left about 2 blocks (5-8 minutes) on the same side as the old sports building. The gym is in the basement of an office style looking building. on the outside is a vertical yellow sign that says "fifteen" on it. If you are walking and go under a bridge, you've gone too far.

If you see a climbing store with an old artificial wall on the outside of the store across the street, this is one of the better gear stores in daejeon. HongHyeon is the owner, is super friendly and may even hand deliver you to the gym if you are lost. (He did for me.)

See maps for better directions...

Update update update! 2007 is here and after a nice little mid-winter meet and greet at the Daejeon Climbing Centre a few other KOTRers know where it is. The name is now Daejeon Fifteen Climbing, and the hours of opening are different. It is no longer open on Saturdays, except by appointment...usually 한상훈/ Han Sanghoon the owner is quite happy to open it up on weekends if you ask.
Inside there are now 2 running machines a lot more free weights and a drop down white screen for AV shows. It's a super friendly place and a few other regulars there speak a bit of English too.
Monthly fees for normal members are 50,000won and a day fee is 5,000won. Please note that chalk bags can be used, but try and use chalk balls (free chalk in a stocking thing) to minimize spills and "air pollution".

Ok well a lot has changed now. The gym has transferred ownership from Han Sanghoon (한상훈) to Yeom Kihyeon (염기현) who was a long time member and super smiley nice guy.
The fees have also gone up as follows:
Monthly (normal adult): 60,000won
Family (2pax): 100,000won
Daily fee: 10,000won
Students: maybe 40,000won??? I dunno.
This is the first price increase in 7 years that I remember so I think it's cool. Also we now have a better stereo and a patch of carpet at the main door. Car parking out back, via the small alley-way right next door is still available, or just duck around the corner of the nearest intersection (30m away). Patrons are requested not to park on the sidewalk in front if possible. Oh and there are now two fully functioning running machines to limber up on as well. Did I mention the beer keg and tap? Well just for special occaisions.

OK so the new owner as of February 5th 2010 is Im Tae-ho (임태호). He has taken over the gym following on the passing of Yeom Ki-hyeon (염기현) in Dec 2009. The Prices are the same as before I believe: 60,000won/ month or 10,000won/ day.
If you are taking a taxi there you can tell them to go to Gway-jeong Dong, KT Yeon-gu Seo (괴정동 KT 연구서)...the gym is across the road from the main gate. A huge overpass is just nearby too, to give you a landmark.
Other than that not too much has changed, it's still an awesome place with great people and slippery never washed holds that send you to the mats time and again.
