More than just climbing!

After getting a great suggestion from Ricardo and reading everyone's profile page, I realized we are interested in way more things than climbing. For example, i've been off the rock most of the year due to a finger strain. So this summer I brought back my road bike from the states. But with no one to ride with and not sure where to go, I haven't used it as much as I had intended. Now there is a place in the forums where you can meet other cyclists, skiers, parasailers or whatever.

I tried to keep the categories very broad and general to start with. If some of the forums start to really take off we can sub-divide the category. If I completely missed some activity, let me know.

Cycling
Snow Riding
Water Sports
Paragliding
Indoor Activities
Camping, Hiking & Backpacking
Travel

i'll take this time to encourage everyone to take GPS points of any/all of the areas you visit for these activities so i can (do my best to) make local maps of the areas to ease the searching difficulties. currently, linking train/bus schedules to the area would be a monumental task for me to figure out so any of that information should be pm'ed to me along with the Lat/Long (if it's rock or ice, please post in that section)
this pic is an example (notice the 'approach' shot can be very helpful). suggestions to map options are welcome.

the best datum to use is WGS84 (found somewhere in settings for garmin units). if you want to use UTM i'll need more details from you.

Ricardo told me about these maps a few weeks ago and thought they were such a good idea that I am building a separate place for navigational images and maps. So when you check out a climbing area or a gym, there will be a link to maps and other landmark images such as signs and buildings.

If anyone has the GPS points for any of the climbing areas OR gyms i encourage you to PM ricardo with the information. Then we can have sweet maps that look like this:

I have a grid for Ganhyun but not handy I will post it later today.

hey all,
i have dug through some of the climbing areas to find points in the post and/or comments. i'm already working on the Soksai Bawi map, but since i've never climbed there i will need to coordinate with someone who has. while i trust the coordinates that folks enter, something as simple as using a different datum will throw off those coordinates and i don't want to lead anyone astray.
i will work with those who pm coordinates to me, and will pm or email those that have posted or commented in a section with existing coordinates to fine tune the map.
keep the points coming!!

--the base of a cliff is a bad place to take a point; you're only recieving half the potential satellites. it's best to take the reading away from the crag, but where it's still visible.
--if you disagree with a map let me know!
--unfortunately the areas with less than 300 meter topography will not turn out as well since my urban data is limited and will not improve (i.e., Uiwang)

To all who post grid coordinates, I can convert UTM to MGRS. Just post what you have and I will check in and convert as needed. I am willing to help this endeavor as much as I can. Great idea.
