Songtan Climbers?

Howdy all, just got in country last week, still getting used to being back in Korea, was here 96-01 before. I didn't climb rock then.

I didn't get to bring my family with me, so I'm only here for a year, while my Korean wife and daughters stay in the States,

At any rate, anyone around here (by here I mean Osan, Songtan, area)? Most of my gear is still in route getting shipped over here, I did bring harness and shoes, should have my rope and the rest of my toys soon enough, just have to wait for the shipment to arrive. Not sure how much climbing I'll get to do while I'm here, I'm sans vehicle, bikes will be arriving with the rest of my gear.

I did get a phone already, amazing how it's cheaper to call the home then it is to call local, lol.

See you out there!

I'm down in Cheonan - 30min by subway, I'm still a bit of a newbie and don't have a rope here in Korea, but Cheonan has a nice indoor gym that is free to climb in - but the times it is open is somewhat limited, usually MWF nights (maybe during the day too - I work then). The Korean climbing club that meets during those times is really awesome - let me know if you ever want to head down and join us!

Apparently there is a wall at the gym on the Hump (camp humphreys), from the pictures I've seen it looks like it can be "lead", since there are bolts? Cheonan isn't all that far, I'm still settling in, very interested in getting out to climb, I've been climbing about 3 days a week a couple hours at a time for the last year and a half...I didn't ship any of my camping gear, just bikes and climbing gear.

Hey Cowboy,

Welcome back...

I am at the Hump there are three walls all have to be led to set up top rope etc the gyms all have ropes to use and there are quick draws already set up. Drop me a line when you decide to come over and check it out. I can get you a certification card so the people that run the gym don't hassel you. I used to do classes on thursdays but I leave in about 45 days so I have passed it back off to one of the Koreans.

My Phone number is in my profile. Or send me a PM with your number and I will give you a call I have a govt cell phone so it dose not cost me a dime...

Later

Mike

Outstanding Mike!

I'll let you know as soon as I can make it down there. Do you have any days/times that you usually climb or randomly go?

I picked up a local cell phone, but can give you my gov phone number later if that works.

Thanks!

Bump for getting back into callus building.

My family got here a couple months ago, finally got the Jeep here less than a month ago...

Now my daughter and I have gotten back to climbing. Still haven't been outside climbing here yet, but we started going to the bouldering gym in Pyongtaek. Our gym schedule looks to be Tuesday and Thursday evenings right now, that is subject to change...have to play it by ear right now.

Hoping to get out on some real rock before it gets cold, if nothing else we'll be working the gym scene, building the digit strength back up. Hope to see some of you out and about.

Hello all,

There's a free outdoor wall in Dongtan. The closest subway station is Byeongjeom. If anyone is interested in climbing during the week please give me a call. I'm trying to climb during the week as much as possible. I'll be there Wednesday night from 8pm-10:30pm.

Directions hmmm...... send me a PM. There are lots of buses that come to the area. General name of the area: "Dongtan Central Park" OR Dongtan Metopolis" The wall is in the middle of the park.

Take care,

The gym we're going to in Pyongtaek has a trip planned for camping and climbing this coming weekend...we really want to go, but I don't know were it is. I only have camping gear for my daughter and myself.

We are pretty well set up with gear for TR and Sport climbs. 60M rope, dozen draws, couple hundred feet of 1" webbing in various lengths, plenty of locking biners...also have lots of rescue gear, hope that's not needed.

I'm headed to Kwang Ju for a day trip in the morning, send me an e-mail at work last name "Urban" I'm the only one in the book for Osan.

Been a while, btt. Got distracted with other hobbies and work. Started climbing again, looking for others to join up with. Cowkid1 and I have been to the Hump twice this week and plan on getting over there more as time allows. We are just traversing and bouldering now, since that's all we can do without a certification to lead climb the walls there.

We live on Osan and drive to Humphreys, so transportation can be worked to help others out that want to join up.

Let me know.
