Seoraksan Climbing Permits

Hi,

Jake talked a little about the climbing permit requirements in another thread, but after going through the process myself, I found it relatively painless:

1. You can get it from http://seorak.knps.or.kr, and click on 암장이용신청안내 on the news items section. But the file is in .hwp, so I've attached a MS Word .doc here, with a little translation as well.

2. You just have to supply your team's name and ID number (even a CA driver's license was fine for one of our group), route area and name, timetable (e.g. 0600 climb route x, 1800 come down), equipment list (just edit the included sample), and a copy of the route diagram ( I think if you smile a lot, the girl at the office may actually copy the pages from her copy of the "Ridge Climbing Guide."

3. If you want to get an early climbing start, you should fax in the pages at least 3 days before climbing, and you'll get it approved 1 day before--they will approve you by phone, and you can pick up the actual permit either at the park office or at the 24 hour mail box. Else, show up with the paperwork at the 탐방지원쎈터 "Hiking Support Center" at 8 a.m. and get it approved on the spot. This office is just inside the ticket inspection area.

I hope this helps!

thanks joe!
you can attach files (jpg, doc, etc) from the icon (a paperclip) above the "enter reply" window. it's not in the quick reply but you can "go advanced" to reach it.

So is this new? Last year Kris and I went up a couple times and just filled out a sheet when we got to the ranger station.

That sounds about right--fill out some info, they copy the route diagram for you for the last page of the application (if it's in their book, or if you bring your book), all out in 5 minutes. I guess my post was for the benefit of those who never had to deal with it before. Also, if you want to get an early start, you need to apply in advance and have them leave the permit in a pidgeonhole for you.
