Pretzl Frock. Urban Crag Championship Daegu. 14th November 2009.
Daegu doesn't possess the pillars of granite of Seorak, the pockets of Seonunsan or the beaches of Busan, in fact no ones really sure what we have got.
However our fair city's saving grace is its badass town crags and amazingly hospitable climbing community. Our routes might not be the highest, hardest, or most impressive but the accessibility of super-classic 5.9's and 5.10's than mere mortals can scale in a sneaky couple of hours slipped in before work never ceases to amaze.
Henceforth we bring you the Pretzl Frock, Urban Cragging Championship, teams of climbers will battle it out to be crowned Urban Cragmaster.
Climbing 5.15a unfortunately won't help you here. Split across a number of the towns prime spots the Pretzl frock is about climbing as many of the city's classic routes as possible. Competitors will be supplied with a pack containing all the information required from bus numbers to comprehensive directions. Transportation between the crags is to be via public transport only, (any infringement will be subject to a forfeit).
A number of classic routes will have letters pre-placed discretely on bolts, filling in the letters on the supplied topo's will spell out the locale of the Urban Cragmaster Bogbrush of champions. First team to make it to the Bogbrush claim the coveted title of 'Daegu Urban Cragmaster 2009'.
Don't suggest we don't know how to look after you either. The Pretzl HQ (My place) will be hosting a ma-hoosive Vegan curry-off, plus a trip to the Ariana (German microbrewery) in the following evening. There's plenty of floor space to be had by all weekend.
