Daedunsan/ Gyeryongsan May 24-25th
Major round of thanks and wll-dones to the crew who showed up - Joe, Yoonju, Jen, Sonia, Sonja and Kat. Sat was a nigh perfect day for some of us and a hiking epic for others. The crag at Shinseon-am in Daedunsan is a hike allright, but we got some sweet routes. Joe, you are a brave man to lead those pitches that were soooooo run out! Yoonju did well free-soloing a pitch by accident too! How good was the view from the top of Sae-cheon-nyeon ridge? Fan-bloody-tastic!
Sunday at Gyeryongsan we discovered there is now a permit system in that park too. You need to go to the managemnet office/ touro info centre and register names and numbers before climbing. There are also new signs to the two major crags (Hwang-jok "OB" slab and Bakaji bawi). We headed up the trail sweating like pigs to the latter. Many good routes (Jen onsighted a crazy arsed super long-run out at the crux 10d! It was epicly scary and bold!), butr a lot of old rusty small dia bolts and a bit of poor bolt placement (where and how). Still the sun shone and we climbed away. Almost no other climbers were seen at either place so it felt kinda remote and chill... well not for Jen who was high-stepping 10 feet above a rusty bolt on tiny crimpers with another 10 feet to go to next bolt! Kat very nearly sent the same route on he lead try by the way...nice job!
Sorry I had to run early on Sunday evening so we missed a full dinner together thing, but next time.
