Hi folks,
We've had been a fair few queries about how the teams are going to work. In keeping with the spirit of the event (climbing as many routes as possible) teams will consist of climbing pairs.
On the prior Saturday (7th of November) competitors names will be cast into two magic fairness hats and picked at random (with minor discretion applied from team Pretzl). One hat for leaders and the other for people who are down with seconding routes (seconds are no less important though as they are responsible for recording route lettering). We'll post up teams, so you have a chance to formulate a battle plan and discuss tactics with your partner a week in advance.
We 'ummed' and 'ahhed' about the best way to do things and we opted for this method to give the newer climbers and fresh kotr folks a chance to compete, this in-turn avoids cliqueiness or the formation of any uber-teams. It is what it is, whilst we expect the odd grumble we're sure that many beautiful friendships will blossom as a result.
At this stage we're also taking the chance to announce 'beta bonus points'. Beta points will offer critical info for the routes at hand and will be awarded to teams attending in duo themed attire. Starsky and Hutch, Pamela and David, Laurel and Hardy, Cheech and Chong, the list is endless. Push the boat out here and you could well gain the tactical edge to take the coveted title.
Route wise, were going to point you at some classic's encompassing completely different types of climbing. Granite off-width 5.8 to conglomerate facey climbing. We've picked routes that everyone is going to have intergalactic levels of fun on all below 5.10b.
An award ceremony will be conducted at the Ariana in the following evening.
We're stoked that so many of you are down with the uptake so quickly.....Rad!
