Hm, different districts then for sure, schools around me start up in the end of January, and then get a delightful break for the new year. (Really, for some schools it's winter break, a couple days back in school, a week off between terms, begin the new year, and then take a week off. Why I don't know, seem like a waste to me). Many new teachers start early Feb because of this.

Also, most of my students started at the end of August for second session, just a couple had it off until the first week of Sept.

Uni contracts are Sept or March. Same with public schools in Jeon-buk. I think a lot of schools run extra classes during the breaks, though. They really don't like to let the kids have fun. Then again, most of the kids would play video games and watch TV. . .
