Jirisan trek Feb. 2-3

I'm inspired by some of the reports, as well as my weekly trips to Bukhan/Dobongsan, to go on a 2 1/2 day trek across the Jirisan area. I would go from East to West. Perhaps catch a late night bus heading South, and start up the mountain Saturday morning. I would stay at Seseok shelter, and start heading down Sunday, to arrive back in Seoul by Sunday night.
Anyone interested? I think I need to make reservations at Seseok by Wednesday (only about fifty spaces left).

More info here

I've done this a few times. Check out: http://koreaclimbs.blogspot.com/

It's going to be a great trip. Jirisan is awesome, especially in the winter.

Hmm, don't know about shuttles. I think Jinju is the major city which serves all of Jirisan. I do know that there is regular bus service from Seoul to Wonji (40 min. from East entrance/Daewonsa), and also from Gurye to Seoul every two hours.
Trying to get shelter reservations now; almost got it two days ago, snagged at credit card checkout; now it doesn't work at all. Last resort would be the walk-in at Piagol, or perhaps bivy + down bag.

Hi,

Don't know about shuttles, but there is regular bus service from Seoul to Wonji (40 min. from Daewonsa) and from Gurye (30 min. from Seongsamjae) to Seoul.
I'm trying to get shelter reservations, but getting frustrated. I got to credit card checkout the other day, but now, it just rejects my arc outright (actually, without even checking; seems to be a crappy web interface problem).
I guess worst case scenario: go down to the Piagol walk-in shelter, or sneak a bivy.

I'm not tough enough to handle that much cold, but I have a lot of really good things to say about the temple at Daewonsa, and if you have time it is worth the visit. Heck, if you all would be around, I'd make the trip over to go back.

okay, got reservations at an adjacent shelter for Saturday. It promises to be a memorable trek: midnight bus from Seoul to Wonji, cab to Jungsanri for a sunrise startoff; hit the peak Cheonwangbong a little before noon, hit our shelter in the afternoon. Sunday we'll get an early start to hit Nogodan/sungsamjae before the last bus to Gurye.

Based experiences at Seoraksan last weekend, I'm planning to get full-length crampons and the snow gaiters. I don't normally carry poles, but should I get them for this trip, i.e. possible deep snow in places? Just wondering. Also, would a sleeping bag liner + rental blankets work for the shelter?

Thanks for any input you have.
