Spring 2009 Meet and Greet Preliminaries
G'Day everyone,
Hope you are all starting to awaken from the winter hibernation/ recover from ice climbing season. As we get ready to start the new Spring, it's time again to turn our minds once more, to the Meet and Greet issues.
For those new to KOTR, the M&Gs are twice yearly national gatherings of KOTRers for a 3 day weekend of climbing and getting to know each other. Typically we get about 50-60 people turning up, from 1st timers thru to aged rock stars and everything in between.
THIS THREAD IS JUST TO GET PEOPLE THINKING OF THE FOLLOWING POINTS AND IS NOT WHERE DETAILED DISCUSSIONS ON THE MEET AND GREET WILL TAKE PLACE. (I'll set up the voting polls and threads for transport, food etc later).
We need to get a date. So ask your work (Base, School, Hakwon, Uni etc) if there are any weekends in late April - May that are likely to have any events (MT, training days, weddings, war-games etc). If you know what weekends will be "out" we can all try and pick alternative dates.
We need to get a place. Traditionally because of logistics and facilities it has been a choice between Seounsan (Seoksal bawi etc) and Ganhyeon. But now Maisan (Albawi and Opera House crags) has emerged as a real possibility (excellent camping options even if you have no camping equipment - they have a 20 man yurt and shelter huts). So get out and see which crags you think would be best...other alternatives are welcomed too. just remember it needs facilities for a large group, and routes at all grades.
OK so that's it for now. Get out there and climb.
