Okey dokes folks, well it seems that KA and I will be off down under in July-Aug, grabbing some time on southern rock, but why the hell don't we stop in Vietnam on the way? No reason why not, right? Bloody oath! That's what we thought too. I just have some pics of Hua Long Bay. If anyone has any experience, info or advice for climbing in Vietnam (something different to Railay, Thailand) I'd be way appreciative. Now, don't worry I'll aslo do my own google research etc. Thanks.

OK so I found some beta myself and the news is looking promising. There are two groups (of both locals and foreigners) who arre re-bolting and expanding the climbing scene around the fabulous Ha Long Bay (nearish to Hanoi). It's very early days and yet we may soon have another awesome vacation destination to hit up. Check out www.slopony.com and www.vietclimb.com for your own beta. If KA and I get there this summer we will do a mni-interview and report for all you cats.
Cheers,
Jake and Kyung Ah

Diep at Hardy Dalat Adventure Tours was interested in developing areas and took me around the central highlands getting opinions and "climbing lessons". . . not sure what he's done with that in the last few years, but if you're in Dalat, check him out! Great guys, but some kitchy tours!

Halong Bay-- didn't climb there but awesome-looking rock. . . might be tricky getting to the routes; you'd probably need to hire a boat.

Got some news from the lads there at Slo Pony, and they seem pretty cool and up-vibey about there being enough routes safely ready by the time we get there. Heidi mate, you have a blast o'er there in Canadia and we'll hook you up with the beta when we get back. It is looking good though, real good. KA and I might be swinging up that way (Canadia) next year to check on Eric and Karen (and Sage and Scruffy) so any beta on Montreal area would be useful (maybe for Eric & Karen moreso.
Thanks mate. Catch you soon.

Hum...I'm fully intruding on this conversation, but I'm from Montreal and did a bit of climbing before I came to Korea. "La Montagne d'Argent" and "Val-David" are both close to Mont Tremblant (about 1 hour away north of Mtl). Easy to get to if you can hire a car...Both have awesome camping. Val-Da has more bouldering if you are into it, and MDA has a small section with Multi-Pitches.
Mont-Orford on the other shore of Mtl, is where you should go. It's a nice hike up and routes are harder. Lots of trad. But you will have no problem finding info on it when you there. (There's a few more good areas further: Kamouraska, Mont Pinacle, Rumni (USA) and a few hours in the Adirondacks as well) I can get you more info if ever you need it!
Hope this might help!

Oh! if your friends are looking for a gym, they should go to Allez-Up, it's the best all around (atmostphere, people, routes...) in Montreal. (www.allez-up.com)
