I am from the US and will be traveling with a friend to Pusan for a few
days in late March. I was wondering if there were any climbers in the
area who might be willing to show us around and have some fun climbing
(Maisan maybe?). I'm not exactly sure what the weather will be like,
but if we arent too cold too climb then any weather is perfect.
Neither of us speak Korean, but I'm not sure how much of a handicap that will
be. We can compensate for gas and a few meals if needed.
Thanks,
Sageles

Sageles,
You will surely find partners in late march! it may still be chilly then, but generally Pusan is warmer than the rest of the country so you could probably entice some out of towners to head south (me included). there is climbing around Pusan but if you want to climb 1/2 way between Pusan and Seoul, Maisan and Seonunsan are good choices.
it's not hard to get around korea without speaking the language as long as you have a little patience and perseverance.
post a reminder when your dates approach.
cheers!

It looks like we will have about 3 days around the Pusan area in late March. The idea of traveling out of town is a possibility as long as accomodations are at hand. We dont have any camping gear with us.
Sport climbing would be best, with the range anywhere between 5.8 to 5.11. I have a partner who is still green around the edges, but he is seasoned at belaying me up the harder routes.
What would anyone consider to be the premier climbing areas in southern Korea? I have read the crag descriptions, but its always good to ask someone who has been to them all.

If you are right in Busan, the best sport crag is DaeRyuk Bong. It is easily accessed by bus or car, and the climbing varies from super easy to super hard. Check out the pictures on the site. Personally, I wouldn't recommend the sea cliffs (Amnam Park), as they might be difficult to find for people new to the area, and the huge bugs in all the cracks were a little to much for me.
Enjoy!

Glad there are so many of us in Pusan now. Let's get together in the next couple of weeks! I think we should lobby for the meet and great to be near by. Preferably Pusan.

Well, after Geumjeongsan on Sunday, I spent the better part of Monday checking out some of Busan's many climbing gyms!! 5 gyms in the better part of one day! Check out the new postings underr Busan/Gyms.
Live in Busan and nothing close? There are several more gyms in Busan- check the back of magazine Climber.
