Just wondering if anyone knows of any decent used cars for sale. My friend is looking for a smallish automatic car, for less than a million won hopefully. Any leads would be appreciated.:)

Cheers!

Heidi mate,
If you (ot friend) can read Korean OK, then check out the 교차로 traders newspaper...it's free at in all those metal newspaper stands that line the main roads and alleys in many Korean cities. For 500,000-1,000,000won you can get something pretty decent. Often 2nd hand dealers advertise there too...often will come with a a month or 3 of guarantees on defects etc. If your friend has an insurance policy (like with Samsung Anycar...worth it totally I think) you can even get a free mechanical appraisal before you buy (from the insurer). Where is your friend? I can flip through the Daejeon issue this weekend and let you know if I see anything interesting...

SO Deb, did you ever pursue the car-thing? I thought you were looking at a motorbike?! I keep going back and forth on the car, but even just one semester it would be nice. . . esp if I get another awesome schedule. Anyway, it sounds as if you'd found something? PM me if you have any leads (that would be anyone, not just deb:))

I just skimmed the used cars section in the 교차로 (crossroads) newspaper (a 2nd hand/trader paper) and saw a bunch of cars (Sonata/Galloper 4WD/Accent/Pride/etc etc) for 300,000-1,500,000won. The adds are all in Korean, but if anyone is really interested I can translate a few (gimme your search parameters) and give you the contact numbers etc. I guess the acrs are all here in Daejeon, but it's a start.

I will be needing a car come end of February, but I suppose I will be needing my international driver's license first. Any idea how I go about getting that?

Actually I was mistaken about one thing (at least!), in that an International drivers lisence is valid for a year or so...but anyway, getting a Korean Lisence is dead easy (esp for US folk), just a simple road rules multiple choice test in English (and maybe not even that in some cases!).

Two questions.

#1 If you hand over your Canadian/American, ect... license, can you get it back when you leave the country...or in other words. If I get a Korean driver's license, when I come back to Canada during the summer, will I be able to drive?

#2 An international driver's license is valid to drive, but is it valid to own a car and be protected by insurance?

The international lic is fine. I just bought a car, insurance and properly registered it last week. All with no problems. My international lic expires in Nov. so I'll hand in my US lic then. But for now city Hall, insurance folks and the cop that pulled me over yesterday, all thought it was fine!

Did I read that right? A cop who actually did something in this country?
