I'm organizing an outdoors trip in Korea. We have Coleman stoves we can bring that use naphtha - is this gas available for sale in South Korea? My contacts there don't seem to know what I'm talking about.

If it is, does anyone know where I can get it? I'm looking for stores mostly in the Seoul area.

Thanks!

Do you mean white gas that you can put in MSR stoves? If that's what you mean then you can get that here and it's pretty cheap. I have never heard of Naphtha so I can't say if that's here or not...

Yeah, that's exactly what I mean. It's clear - I think some people call it white gas. It's the kind of thing you use for camping stoves, that sort of thing.

Know of any stores offhand in Seoul that sell it?

BTW, everyone just calls it Naphtha in the military... I guess no one else does!

I don't know of any stores in Seoul specifically but if you head to the 2 major market areas(namdae moon and dongdae moon) you should be able to find what you need.

I can find white gas for my MSR stove in a few shops in Daejeon. It's usually sold by the liter and it comes in a clear plastic bottle. if you don't see it in the shop, just ask. It might be behind the counter.

You can get white gas in.

supermarkets.
camping stores
fishing takle stores
and many sports stores.

However lugging white gas a coleman stove and spares around with you might be a bit heavy.

Get your self a gas burner, small bottles of propane gas cost about one or two dollars here and you can get it a lot more easily than white gas.
You know the round cans with a dented base and screw on tops, no messy, noisy, heavy MSR to lug around.

If you are treking in the mountains the consider a tarp and Bivi gear, rather than a tent. The reason being up in the hills there aren't many flat spots for pitching a tent.
