This weekend Keith, Corey and I all head to Jangsudae in Seoraksan only to discover that it has been completely destroyed. This was an amazing campground and it was so sad to see the damage. During the July 17 weekend/holiday heavy rain forced campers into the "A" frame cafe only minutes before the chaos occured. Unfortunately, two people did not survive. There are pictures on my personal blog if anyone would like to see the damage. (www.adventuresfromkorea.blogspot.com). The road into the campground has been washed out in many places in both directions and is unpassable in others. We were able to get all the way in from the Inje side of the park but have heard that the road from Sokcho is still closed. The road itself is not open to public traffic (we arrived late at night and did not know the extent of the destruction when we entered) but construction is already in place. Agulbawi was not damaged and the the trail to Mi-Reuk-Jang-Goon Bong was still visible from the road but we did not hike up to check it out due to the obvious damage everywhere. If people in the Sokcho area could please post updates on road conditions if you have any in the future and on the condition of Mi-Reuk-Jang-Goon Bong. I'm pretty sure the whole area is closed currenlty so, it may take a while for new info to surface.
