Yeah we do a lot of treking and mountaineering at home but I sent all of my gear home about a year ago from Oz. We don't have anything here, and We don't really want to buy anything since We have no car. Tying to keep it slim and light while I'm here. Usually just crash at yaegwans.

Antepater,

if you can get up to Daejeon early sunday morning then you can hop in with us.

Also, i moved your last post about May 26th to a new topic so people's posts don't start getting lost in this thread. I think it will be easier for people to navigate through the upcoming trips via a date.

I hope you can get to the wall sunday!

Too bad no one could make it on Sunday. The weather cooperated for all but 10 minutes of the day. Unfortunately those 10 minutes were while I was climbing.

Here's a very small climbing trip story:
Karen and I are on a new wall behind Soksal Bawi. We have zero beta on the climbs. So I choose an easy looking one to warm up on. But before I go up I hand Karen my helmut. She grimaced and buckled it on. The climb starts fairly mellow and that was good because here comes a little rain. About half way up, the route and the rain get a little harder. Then I came to what I thought was the crux of the climb. Given that I am a little pumped I found a nice place to rest and get psyched for the move to the next bolt. The rain's not letting up so better go. I get about 3 moves into the crux and I find a nice lefthand, side pull, crimper (enough adjectives for you?). This has got to be the hold to make the move to the next bolt so I layback on it. Next thing I know I'm counting the last 2 draws I clipped as they fly past my face. The hold blew right off. I come to a soft, bouncy landing just in time to look down at Karen getting hit in the head by the rock that snapped off. Thank you Petzl. No injuries, soft landing, great catch. But no time to bask in the moment, rain is getting harder and now I have to move past the crux with the main hold gone, or at least greatly reduced. Anyway, finished the climb, grabbed the draws and headed for shelter.

That's it. My small climbing story of the day.
No Pics. Too overcast.

I'm in for sure. In fact I will call you Fin. might try to come down Sat night, stay at a yeogwan or something just to be there so you don't have to wait in the am. I called Tyler to try and get him on board. I look forward to climbing with you all. UNLESS the weather turns crap hard to tell now but I will confirm by Sat. I see if I can dig anyone else up around here. How does the trad prospects look???. Peace The tomas

The Fin

I've only been climbing at the end of the upper wall, at the 토끼 boulder on the topo from http://www.mtulsan.co.kr/climb/munsu/munsu.htm
it's all 5.6 -5.8's. We're looking to do some harder climbing...

There's tonnes of trad potential, the rock is beautiful and it is filled with cracks. The koreans have bolted the hell out of fine crack lines. I, not having a trad rack, don't mind the bolting.

antepater
05-11-2004, 11:00 AM
I have a rack with me. Should have plenty of gear for anythign less than a big wall.

An eight hour round trip drive.
90,000 Won in tolls, gas and room.
30 minutes of hiking.
1 climb...

bummer.

That's 3 out of 4 rain checks I've had in Ulsan. Does it always rain in Ulsan?

See everyone next time.

hey, I'm going to wait until Sunday morning to see what the weather does??? It might be nice (yeah right!)... If by the "Grace of God" (or "Climbing Gods" that is) that the sun pokes out tomorrow I hope to climb something...I'm sure I'll have stay in Taegu though...let's pray for better weather next weekend shall we? Hope to meet everyone soon.
