Hi all... new to the board.

I'm organizing a hiking/rock-climbing trip for some army cadets in Canada. We want to camp overnight at Bukhansanseong National Park, but I'm having trouble finding information about campsites. Does anyone have any information about camping, fees, and how busy/crowded this area is? Thanks in advance,

Dylan

Blake,

Welcome to the site!

This is what bawijaengi said about Insubong which is a peak in Bukhansan.
CAMPING: The camping fee is only 4,000WON; however, you must have a special permission(heorakseo) form from any Korean climbing club in order to camp legally. This campground and all of Bukhan National Park prohibits any camping to the general public in order to prevent excess damage to the natural setting.
Hope this helps.

BTW, are you living in Seoul now?

Check out this site for more info about camping in Bukhansan:

Also, since this park is IN Seoul, it gets busy! I recommend you go during the week and avoid going on Saturday and especially Sunday! That goes for most national parks in Korea in the summer and fall.

Also, camping is not the same as back home. Usually there are designated areas near the parking lot of the park. The camp sites and very close to each other and you can usually park your car in very close by, if not on your site.

The national parks do not allow camping 'just anywhere'. There is a fine for this, though I don't know how much.

I have never just hiked into a park, found a nice spot by a cool stream and pitched a tent. It just doesn't happen here. Maybe other folks have had different experiences...

Thanks for the info.

Actually, I'm a Canadian Forces officer who's planning a trip to Korea for some cadets. I did spend 6 months teaching in Daejon, though.
