View Full Version : Anyone for O2 Saturday, Jan. 28th?
I'm new to Korea, and in the market for some extreme basic stuff to get off on the right foot climbing here... so from the information I've gathered this would be a great place to start.
Also, if anyone has any advice on how to get there from the Military base / Iteawon area, that would be great. I'll make it, (eventually,) but I'd rather approach this with something a little deeper than the "Let the broken-English-speaking cab driver figure it out" mentality.
I have a feeling that makes me come off as insufferably rude...
Also any links to good maps would also be useful.
Thanks...

Hey DJP,
I am not willing to travel this weekend do to the Lunar New Year but would be willing to help you get there the next week end. I am at the Hump a little south of ya also in the Mil. Check my profile and drop me a line.
Mike
I didn't understand how big the Holiday was until I talked to someone at my work today...
Actually, I think I'm going to try out a place in Uijombu.
Still a little fuzy on the details... I had a Katusa call them for me; the said the owner would be back tommorrow and could give them better information on fee's / hours of operation / location... but I have atleast a general idea where it's located.
And yes, Eric, if i go I take a few pictures and send all the info to you.

Hey all,
so it sounds like a few others are going to make it out to O2 this weekend. It may be closed on Sunday because of the holiday, but maybe we could hit the boulders at the 'Bong...what do you think Dave? The weather has been REALLY warm lately?!?!?!? But, it could be open anyway. I'm definitely hoping to come out, sounds like the Sokcho crew are going to join, Dave as usual???, I know Paul is in Thailand now, Paula?, JAMIE - you NEED to get out and meet some people!!! ;) This is your big chance!...and of course, everyone else out there who can make it...
Usually the traffic is not bad going INTO Seoul at the start of a long weekend, only leaving, so I wouldn't sweat the traffic if you're outside of the city...

So when are you people going to be there - Saturday or Sunday?
How about trying outdoor bouldering on Saturday - I think it's not that cold outside or at least worth trying it!
Alex.

oh man oh man oh man...
if it isn't supposed to be cold on saturday, i will definetly be up for some bouldering at the 'bong. i've been itching a sore spot for a month now to get outside. anyone know what the temps are gonna be like -- finger tip freezing? shoe-now-feels-like-a-granite-slipper cold? t-shirt and pants when on the boulder? makes-me-wanna-barf-my-tips-are-so-frozen cold??
if it's "warm", i'm in. if not, i'm nursing a slice on my foot, so i may skip the gym, lest i spray american blood and gore everywhere, least of all inside my own shoes...
but i could be willing, i don't know!! -- i can't believe i even made it to Korea with this indecisiveness....:rolleyes8
see ya there...maybe,
Dave

looks like jenn and i may be heading to the big city for the holidays. it'll be worth the trip if we get the chance to actually meet up with some of you guys and gals (and it'll just be good to see you again heidi). if the weather's agreeable, i'd love to check out those boulders in insubong. failing that, pulling plastic will have to suffice. with a crew, a session could be just what the doctor ordered. hope to see you there.

Hi all!
Just checked in with O2 today and the gym is definitely NOT open on Sunday, but will be open on the Saturday before and the Monday after. Chul Jun also pointedly reminded me a number of times that they hold ice climbing instruction sessions every weekend in the ice climbing gym, including this Saturday. I think he really wants to teach some people, so if you are interested in learning, the instructors are happy to help! :)
Maybe we could check out the gym on Saturday (or just go right outside if the weather's absolutely amazing - I know Dave's crossing his fingers!), and then hit the outside boulders on Sunday once we've got an idea of what the weather's doing. And do whatever on Monday...or just do whatever, whenever, I don't really care, just wanted to make sure everyone knows that O2 is closed for the Lunar New Year (Sunday, the 29th).
Anyway, whatever, just looking forward to seeing you guys out there!
Cheers!

So finally what are the arragements for Saturday 28th?
Heidi, are you coming to O2? Anyone else?
I'm planning to go there late morning/early afternoon (if I wake up early enough :)) Would be cool to find some partners there..
Just a side note:
I got some more info about O2 World. You can find it here:

Hi Alex!
I think I'll go as early as possible and get in some ice climbing and then go to the gym...or the reverse, depending on others' plans. I'll stay there as long as I can on Saturday. ;)
Hope to see you there!
Cheers!

If the weather's good, I'm heading outside. I'll be up and moving around 9am and on my way to the Bong around that time as well (Seoul beer swilling on a holiday weekend away from Incheon aside).
I will be outside if the temps are good. guaranteed. if it isn't frigid and you wanna hike to the granite, head up to the campground boulders, and i'll be tromping around somewhere up there, above the campsite and slightly to the right, if all goes according to plan (up and right of the small buddhist temple). if it's cold, of course, i won't be there, because i'm feeling like a big sissy.
i'll drop my phone # later tonight (i don't have it, just bought a new phone, it's waiting in seoul for me as i type on this shyte computer in incheon), in case anybody wants to get out tomorrow....
cheerio,
dave

jenn and i are heading into seoul tonite (fri) and are going to climb tomorrow. the plan is to head to o2 to meet up with heidi, but if the weather is anywhere near as great as it's been in sokcho these past few days, i'd be anxious to get on some stone. insubong boulders sound inticing.
dave, if you do head to the boulders tomorrow, mayhaps you can give heidi a call in the morn if you have her number. she's the obvious go-between to me and everyone else on this site.
wherever we end up, i hope to see some of you there.
ciao,
greg

i'll be at the bong before noon, above and right of the little temple for most of the day...
cheerio!
