So a few of us have noticed there's not much going on indoors. . . actually, I think this says something positive about this community--we're rarely indoors-- or maybe it's the opposite, when we're indoors we do nothing of interest. . . except check out KOTR (and www.democracynow.org), and maybe stretch a bit since it's ondol season!

Maybe this forum should be changed. The best suggestions I've heard (and I don't remember exactly who said them or I'd credit y'all but I don't want to credit the wrong person so if it was you, feel free to let me know and I'll amend this:) ) so far were 1) trip reports and 2) spray. Not that we want to be just like the typical western climbing site ("Dude, can you believe they chipped a hold, dude" or "dude, JiriJammer had the first bolt clipped so it doesn't count, dude"), but here in Korea we have different kinds of trip reports and adventures (sometimes, without ever arriving at the crag-- not that this hasn't happened at home/elsewhere). . . imagine the "Sunday on Insubong" thread! Both ideas would allow for more creativity in posts, and some of the people on KOTR (Waaay higher percentage of "English teachers," and waaaay lower percentage of complete idiots, who often dominate Western climbing sites) than on climbing pages at home:)

I've looked at many of the websites and blogs of KOTR folks, and I think asking them to share or spray might be better than encouraging them to stay at home:) Except Ricky, who makes a mean octopus!

what do you mean by "spray"?

spray: oft embellished or meticulously detailed accounts of one's climbing prowess. . .

aka, if grande sends, watch out!

Given the way some folks can describe a trip to the market, I'm thinking it might make some good readin'. (or a climber's digest version of everyone's climbing stories from their blogs. . . and those of us without blogs. . .)

In any event, spray could mesh with trip reports (and take in epics, too, and accidents). . .

Like the idea of sharing tall tales and true, as climbing is one of the few sports that has a historically rich and intrinsically sympathetic tradition of literary activity; a sort of "furor scribendi" as it were, born of the peculiar collections of accident and experience that makes climbing what it is. Where should aspiring pens lodge their collections for public perusal? Should we open a special forum/ link/ thread? I'm keen to see what gems might float out from fellow KOTR-ers.

what about a KOTR blog (of sorts)?

it would look like this:
right now there are 3 main categories of the forums; Climbing, Other Activities and Community. We could add another category called something catchy like Climbing Blogs. (we can choose something more catchy if that isn't wild enough for you ;)) within that category there could be sub-blogs and it would look like this:

Climbing Blogs
Shanja's Thesaurus Challenge
Just What Is skinsk?
Eric's non-climbing climbing climber's blogglob
etc...

if you want a blog, just let me know and i will make the category for you and you will be given a lot more permissions in your blog to add/edit/delete your posts and other's comments.

how does that sound?

eric
ps. shanja, i've never seen a more poetic forum post!

Blog on Eric, blog on....now I just have to ascertain what a blog is (Luddite that I am, I'm techno-illiterate dude...crikey! I mean, fair suck of the sav' Eric, if you reckon it's the go, then I'll not question your wisdom). I don't want it to be a drag or hard work for you though...if other people reckon it's worthwhile to share stuff, go for it. And many many thanks. Beers soon?:eek8:

OK, i must thank Sonia and Ricardo for sacrificing their time, mental energy and liver for mulling this category over and coming up with a solution.

Now we have Trip Reports. Have fun!

Jake - I hope to see more poetic posts from you! They are a joy to read. :) Also, i have vacation soon so i'll take you up on the beers thing in about 10 days.

Enjoy
Eric
