Just dropping a note to say that a small gang will be going to Insubong (tashi) this weekend to boulder, on saturday, but probably not sunday. We usually arrive around 10:30, hit the rocks around 11am. There will be one pad in tow and some spotters, plus dozens of good lines. Pretty chilly, but the wind is mostly decimated by Insubong and the surrounding boulders lodged in the small valley. Hope to see some boulderers out there, it's really worth a day on the rock!

but i gotta go to club night man. ahh that one v4 next to the highball. I've been thinking about that problem everyday. I think i figured it out.

I gotta hit that hold in the middle and bring my right leg up next to my right hand - as seen in the picture on my blog. but I need my right leg on the outside of my right hand. Then I will release my left hand from the start hold and begin slapping up that right rail - only using friction to keep me on.

I will either then slap all the way to the top or more probable quickly shoot my right hand up to the jug on the right.

Money from there.

So ya i'm going to club night Friday night because I have been here for 4 months (tomorrow is my 4 month aniversary) and I have not gone to club night ($15 for all the clubs in hongdae). So climbing will not be much of an option because I plan to just go back to Cheongju at 6am when I am ready to leave the clubs. But if i end up finding a free place to sleep that night then maybe I'll join you guys. AND if i'm feeling up to it.

Regardless I'll bring your new pad and I will for sure see you next weekend ready to put up new first ascents in SangLeeSan

PEACE

I tried the left heel hook and it was really hard to throw up there. but man. it looks like money if i pull the heel hook because then I could then match and switch my heel into a toe and finally shoot my right hand to the nubbing jug on the upper right.. even though it isn't much of a jug :)

rich: have not had the pleasure of testing the indoor ice. i just heard about this place from heidi, so maybe this year jenn and i'll get a chance to check it out. considering we're in sokcho though, it'll probably be easier for us to just get on the real deal. let us know what it's like if you make a trip there.

Yah, we got the grande tour of the O2 store on the weekend.. the people in there are super stoked about showin' it off, and they should be.. that store has like 7 floors.. downstairs has an amazing climbin' gym.. same floor as the ice climbin' start. It costs 20 thou for one session there at the center! That place will hook u up with anything and everything you need. Crash pads, many kinds of shoes, the works.. it freakin' rules! Arc'terix gear gallor.. but expensive.. ohhhh, such a sweet place!

Was it 20,000 for using the climbing gym and for renting equipment? Did you use the ice climbing center as well? I heard that it was 8,000 on a weekday, and 10,000 on the weekends. Was there a membership sign-up fee?

We were in the ice climbin' center.. that is what they told me was 20 thou for one session.. gear and everything. I'm not sure about the membership sign up, but i do know that you can get a store card and it gives ya a 10 % discount on stuff and if you buy enough stuff you can use their climbin' facilities for free, or reduced fees.. Have fun.

i think it's 20,000 for the ice wall (by the way, real ice -- definetly nothing like those styrofamy ice walls back in the states), for one day's fun, which probably doesn't include rental. we didn't ask what the climbing gym cost, but it blows all the other gyms i've seen in Korea outta the water (i guess i've seen 5 or 6 gyms only, though). The holds are all new, i.e., not greased to hell and back like most gyms, and the walls are covered with nice routes, some bouldering, some actual sport routes (featuring a great wall, roof, headwall!). It's really quite an incredible set-up.
