Wow. . . Saturday I was talking to a friend from Pohang who was going to go there Sunday with his climbing team, and asked me if it was worth it to go on a Sunday (another girl from Pohang was definitely going). I emphatically stated that while I had climbed there on weekends (especially before KOTR when I just went wherever my gym took me) but with the crazy crowds and dangerous goings-on, I would not receommend a Sunday climb. . . 12 people on one belay, 4 lead ropes going out at the same time, etc, etc. . .

My friend Brad was on P3 of a climb on Janggeunbong when a climber fell from P5 of the same climb (I believe he posted it here).

Really sad to read that. . . I hope he's OK, but from what is described. . . it's something quite disturbing I don't want to witness.

We were really stressing safety this weekend, and I thank Dusty and Robin for teaching the the bowline-- if only so I can check my partner's knot.

I heard more about the fall. 3rd hand information... soooo....

The dude was rappelling back down. I'm not sure how exactly it happened. but he was the 3rd in the sequence to go down. But the rope was too short... I'm not sure how the rest got down before him without running out of rope.

But he rappelled down and he had no more rope left at the end and there was no safety knot... I don't understand how he was 3rd in the sequence and still fall off... I'd imagine the lead rappeller would have the knot down...

Anyways, I don't know the name of the route, but where I was told he fell... that is a free fall. Definetly about 4 pitches.

Condolences to his family.

I hate hearing these things...
