I am 95% sure I will be climbing in Mokpo this coming weekend. It's in the very South-western corner of Korea (so still warmish?!), but directly linked to Seoul by train (or bus) and the climbing is right in the city. I'll probably head down Friday afternnon and play tourist, but can meet folks Sat AM if necessary, or provide more specific info on when where how to get there and/or meet. Probably stay at a cchimchilbang.

At any rate, everyone is welcome to come and check out another part of Korea. . .

(Mike, I'll get you train info if you need-- let me know when you can leave and/or need to be back. . . don't think your car will make it. . .)

Next weekend: (18-20 Nov) will probably head to Seoul. . . weather permitting I'd like to check out some subway-accessible places.

I hope Rick will come so y'all can discuss maps, etc and someone can get me what I want (I haven't, too be honest, looked into it myself!). I forgot about the trip to the States! Enjoy Austin! I'll be home Jan/Feb? Will be in PM touch re: gear so we're not too redundant, but I'll wait to hear from Rick.

Also: Ricky in Mokpo: will you be around next weekend? can you show/tell us the climbs/ratings??!

I tried to post a new entry about Kokiri bawi in Mokpo with photos and everything but after I typed it all up and tried to submit it told me I wasn't logged in and I lost it all. I have should have photos up on my website soon, so feel free to check them out there. To get to Mokpo you can take the KTX. From Seoul it's the last stop, but there are two train stations and one of them doesn't have a train to Mokpo. But buses run regularily. You can call 02-1330 for english bus/train schedules. To get to Kokiri bawi, if that's what your interested in, you need to tell a taxi to go to Ominsan and then get him to drive past it about two minutes. Stop when you see a restaurant with a yellow and red sign. I think it's a goat restaurant, but they may serve chicken too. To get to the rock you need to go between peoples houses on this little walking trail. Go up the trail that has a table laid out as a bridge. Just follow the trail and then when it branches stay to the left. Just before you hit a wooded area there is a little trail to the left, follow it and you will see the rock. It's face climbing and there are about ten courses from 5.9-5.11c. The rock is a little hard on your hands, but if you've been in the gym maybe it's just what you need to scrape those calluses off. Ok!

Thanks for the info. I have a map and will be in touch. I'm coming from Jeonju, so I'll take the bus, but from Seoul/Gyeonggi or Iksan it's probably nicer to take the train. How's the weather? Temp?

i'm in! i wasn't sure if i could make it but my fat ankles have drained (long flight).
so, we have M, J, S and I for sure; maybe we should double up gear so no one will have to wait around...and hopefully more will join!
not sure when i'll be able to head down...probably sat am (if that works for you J).
Ricky, i hope you read this in time. i'm out of minutes until tomorrow afternoon so i can't text you. come out and join us! team ricky needs to climb again!
cheers all!

Agreed with 4 we need 2 ropes (J is automatically exempt; he hauls his own equiptment!) . . . R, S, and M all have gear. I was hoping to go lite-- i.e., not haul my rope to school with me, but if I must, it won't be the first time. . .

And even though there seems to be this "group" of us who already know each other. . . it's just 'cuz we responded to posts like this. . . ALL ARE WELCOME! (Especially those who are willing and able to 1) haul gear and 2) rescue draws from "hard" 10s!!)

OK,

we still need a Canadian (or Euro, etc, a token non-American) and a strong climber! Could be one and the same. Anyone?
