Three of us will be heading up to the Insubong campground this weekend to check out the boulders, if anyone wants to meet and come along. Probably won't be there until 1pm on saturday, but could probably go real early on sunday. This saturday we checked out a huge boulder on the trail, 100 meters up from the entrance, which I'm sure many of you have seen and/or climbed on. About five nice lines present, with more to go, I'm sure (you know, eliminates and all that ballyhoo!), but some are very nice, pretty high, sketchy landing but worth it! Definetly an awesome, amazing boulder! Reminds me of Little Cottonwood in Utah...

Anyway, we'll be hiking up on Saturday, then probably on Sunday, weather permitting!

Hope to see some of ya out!
Cheers,
Dave

do you know of any other boulders besides the trailside one? i'm keen on heading up there on sunday but want to find more beta on the bouldering there first. I'll ask some of my Korean friends and see if I can get some more info.

I've just heard that there are some good boulders around the Insubong campground, about 15 minutes up from the Tiger Boulder (I think that's what this guy at the gym called that trailside rig). But for pete's sake, I think if you just head off the trail and explore you'd find a granite garden out there. I'm heading to the gym tonight, so I'll ask, but the language barrier is pretty stout right now, and it seems nobody boulders anyway!

Besides the boulder near the trailhead, and the ones at the camping area, there's another V11 at the base of Insubong. Take the trail that takes off to the right before the camping spot and heads up to Insubong Proper rather than Baekundae. At the base of the face, just go a little to the left and you'll see a flat faced boulder with a diagonal line going up and left. Have fun. Wish I could go, but a neck injury has me out for awhile. Try to get some pictures of each of the areas. I'm sure people would really appreciate that. -Jeff

Definetly will do!!! Thanks for the beta, Jeff. Get that neck better! Do you know of any more little goodies out that way?

I just added Dobongsan Bouldering to the site. But my pictures are old; they're from a hike in 2004. Maybe see what you can develop there another weekend.

Definetly will do. Today we hit up Insubong, and the bouldering is really good. Besides the Trail boulder on the way to the campground, there's a plethora of great stuff to be found amongst the camping sites. I messed around on tons of new and untouched rock until I met two Koreans bouldering, and they gave me the impromptu tour. Established climbs everywhere, roofs, overhangs, slabs, hard and easy, etc... Something for everyone. I'll be meeting those guys again next Saturday, so if anyone wants a quick tour of a nice granite playground, meet at the Insubong campsite around 11-12 on Saturday. It's well worth the trip!!!
