I'm really sorry to post this news, that the owner/ manager of Daejeon's Climbing gym Mr Yeom Gi-hyeon/ 염기현 was kiled in an ice-climbing accident at Shimbeng-i Pok-po near Songnisan on Christmas Day. It seems a large section of ice above him broke free and fell upon him.
It's a truly black time for the Daejeon climbing community, and especially so for his wife and two children. Words can't begin to express condolences and sympathy to his family, nor can they hope to describe the great friendship and "정" our Yeom Jang-nim/ 염장님 (Manager Yeom) radiated. He was a great person, a great climbers and we all miss him enormosly already.
The funeral at Saint Mary's Hospital was very well attended, and on behalf of his family and friends I extend thanks and thoughts to all those who came to share memories and to comfort each other. He will be buried today at his family tomb site in Hongseong County Chungnam-do.
Rest In Peace my friend.

That's tragic news, Jake. I'm deeply sorry for Mr Yeom's family. I never had the pleasure of meeting Mr Yeom, but I remember you and others from the group speaking fondly of the climbing gym and its management.

I hope Mr Yeom's family can find solace, and as it appears that Mr Yeom was a truly well respected member of the community, I'm sure they will receive comfort from family and friends.

You take care, too, Jake.

Thanks everyone for the thoughts...I just found this and thought I'd post it up, as I think it really captures Yeom Jang-nim's spirit and character.
This Saturday at the opening of the Yeong-dong Ice Park we will be having a small memorial I think.
