Nepal Increases Tiger Protection

As a result of recent research and pressure from significant global NGOs, Nepal has decided to expand the borders of Bardia National Park in the Terai. The park will be expanded by 900 km2. For perspective, that's roughly double the size of Jirisan National Park, Korea's largest terrestial park.

Thanks for some good news, Shawn and thanks WWF. I was in the Royal Chittiwan Park (another tiger refuge in the Terai in Nepal) and was quite impressed. Most (all?) of the guides were chosen from locals and trained, and attempts were made to connect people from the villages nearby to the park. (Didn't see any tigers, but a did see a leopard, thanks to my guide.)

Nepal is doing a wonderful job in animal and habitat protection. The country is leaps and bounds ahead of most other countries in the region, including China. Nepal is leading the world in big cat conservation, especially with their work (within the country and in association with NGOs) to protect snow leopards and their habitat.

In the US, people are foaming at the mouth over wolves and the country continually goes back in time in their conservation and raising of awareness. It's incredible that one of the world's poorest countries stands as an epic example for the world's Superpower in terms of conservation.
