Contemplating a week's visit to Seorak-san in mid-October. Previous trips have been in winter, for the ice, and were a long time ago, so I wondered if KOTR regulars could offer some guidance on the following:
(1) Getting there from Seoul. We will probably be flying into Incheon airport and ideally would like to get to the park the same day. Likely to arrive Seoul on a Saturday afternoon.
(2) Staying there. I recall walking through the Pisandae hut in the past - do they have rooms or is it dorms, is there anywhere similar inside the park that is recommended, or alternatively whats best / cheapest / nearest the park gate? Are sleeping bags a necessity for the huts?
(3) Climbing. Basically looking for single-to-multi pitch, 5.6 to 5.10, and willing to dangle (though not to whack) up some easy aid to connect the free pitches. Where's best, and where's best to base ourselves? A preference for trad / granite or similar.
(4) Others. Is it goiing to be so crowded mid-week as to be miserable? Are there any public holidays or hgh holy days to be avoided?
(5) Weather. Like I say, mid-October. Warm days, chill nghts, or have I got it wrong?
More generally, we've been to Insubong / Suninbong and enjoyed it, but want to check out somewhere else - is there anywhere that meets the criteria that we should be looking at?
Very grateful for any information anyone can provide. The website is excellent btw, but I would appreciate any additional insight you might have.
Many thanks,

Hi. Posted this up a while back and it now looks like we'll be going the weekend of 10 October for a week or so.
Two additional questions (to those previously posted): is it possible to book a bedspace at the Pisandae hut? and are there any recommendations for cheap places to stay at or not far outside the park entrance?
Many thanks,

Damian, there is a camp-ground outside of the park at a place called Seorak-dong (campground = Ya-yeong-jang/ 야영장). It's about a 15min bus ride from the entrance (or a 40min walk) but shuttle buses pass every 30mins or so. Still if you wanted to make max use of your time, Pisondae Shelter (비선대 산장-대피소) is your best bet. If you wanted a little more luxury (a bed/ shower etc) the home-stay places called Min-bak (민박) are a cheapish option in Seorak-dong village. Just past the camp-ground you'll see signs out the front of houses saying "민박" (min-bak) these are kinda like back-packer places and should cot you about 15,000-25,000won a night, come with hot-shower, TV, bed and maybe a small fridge even.
From the entrance to Pisondae is still a good 30 mins brisk hike. There is usually plenty of room at Pisondae shelter though.
