CPR / First Aid classes with the Redcross

There are two more classes scheduled for month of July.

11 July -- 8am to 4:30pm Located at Camp Casey-line 1; Bosan Station.

25 July -- 9am to 5:30pm Located at Camp Red Cloud-line 1; Uijongbu station

I know these classes are quite a trek for some you and if would like work some sleeping arrangements let me know.

I will post the contact info for registration if anyone is interested in attending the courses.

Are these classes still available now? I am looking to get CPR certified sometime next year. If so do they need a group of a certain size to take part?

Does anybody know if a Wilderness First Responder (WFR) course is offered anywhere in Korea?

I contacted the KRC and Kyesun Lee sent me a detailed reply with schedule and info on the classes. They are typically conducted in Korean, but: Plus, If your group want to take our course with more than 15 people, we can send our instructor who can conduct the course in English to your wishing site. and they noted:If you want the course in English only, we can suggest to contact American Red Cross in Yongsan U.S Army Garrison where the FA and CPR course is running.

CPR is one day, 9-4, W20000 and certification lasts one year. First Aid is two 4 hour days at various times (generally PM) for W40,000 and lasts two years.

I don't think getting 15 people would be so hard (we can ask at our schools) as it's never a bad idea for teachers. I'd be up for a class or two when I get back.

If you guys want to go through the military branch of the American Red Cross, call 0505-0505-753-7172 or 031-690-7172. this should get you to the office at camp humphreys. Just explain to them that you are a civilian english teacher off base and you are interested in taking a class on base. You would need their help to sponsor you on base.

If the number doesn't work then i will find some more numbers for other military bases in korea.

I'd be in for a First Aid course, especially in we could do it over the break (Dec-Jan) or alternatively if it could be arranged somewhere we can all get to as an English Course. 40,000won is cheap and worth the extra time and effort over a simple CPR IMHO.

I'd rather wait until winter-breakers are back:-) but it would hopefully be possible to get 15 people twice, or to get sponsors and just attend base classes. The fees seem reasonable, and really, first aid and CPR certification is a good thing to add to a teaching (or climbing) resume.

The CPR and First Aid are separate classes, so you can do both (and as a teacher and climber, it really could be a life-saver). I've been certified in the past (when my jobs have offered us the chance) but I know I forgot too much, and really wouldn't be comfortable doing CPR.

I'll be happy to look into it when I get back, but I posted the info so YOU (yes Jake, you) don't have to wait!

I just did a re-cert a couple of months ago, otherwise I'd be in for joining. CPR has changed over the past couple of years. No more 15:2 (chest compressions to breaths) for adults, 10:2 for kids. It's now 30:2 for both. It's never a bad idea to 'touch up' on your CPR/1st Aid skills.
