Does anyone know if dogs are permitted at the climbing area in Wonju? I am planning on going there this weekend and camping but was unsure if dogs are permitted. Also, does it cost anything to camp there?

Do you mean Ganhyeon (http://www.koreaontherocks.com/climbing/areas.php?area_id=22)? If so, we always took our dog there. Camping's free, too.

If you don't mean Ganhyeon, ignore above.

Yeah dogs are really welcome there, Les and Sujin brought there two schauzers along last weekend, great place for them to run free in safety (except next to road. But there is now a camping fee...apparently. The older guys on mopeds are meant to come along and collect the fee from you after you set up, but they actually skipped us in the far camp ground...maybe you'll be lucky too...though it was minimal...maybe 3,000won.

On a related note, I used to take my dog hiking in Samgaksan (Bukhansan NP) when he was smaller (he's a big brute now and hard to travel with, so we stick to the small local city park, Jeongbalsan), but I had to sneak him in. Dogs are absolutely forbidden because they apparently poop. This makes sense since wild animals and humans never poop in the parks.

Another dog note, dogs are not allowed in National Parks (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_parks_of_South_Korea) (as Hypoxic pointed out) but they are still allowed in Provincial Parks (and lesser parks).
