Hi Jean Pierre,

What sort of climbing do you want to do? If you want to go sport climbing, there will probably be lots of people going on trips to various crags. (I am not sure exactly where I'll be going yet, but you're welcome to join anyway. I can give you more details closer to September.) Alternatively, there will probably be some posts on this site, if you keep touching base, I am sure you will find whatever suits you.

If you want to go trad climbing, there are nice routes at Insu-bong, easily accessible on the edge of Seoul. However, I don't really know how to trad climb, so I can't help you there, although I am sure I could second someone leading.

Do you arrive at the airport on the 2nd, and fly out on the 5th? There is some good climbing really close to Seoul, however, the drive to other places could be 1.5-3.5 hours. Is that alright? Do you like overhung climbs? Slab? Any preferences?

Cheers!

Hi Heidi

Excuse me for the response time, I am on vacation in the creeks of cassis (France) and I come back Thursday!
I want to go sport climbing, me too, I never do trad-climbing, and I don't want hurt me in Korea I prefer to try it at home (in France :)
I arrive at the seoul airport on the Wednesday August 31st (It's the first time that I travel by air : 13 flight hours!!! ) and fly out on the Tuesday September 6th at 12h45.
I go to seoul for conférence "ICDAR 2005" (I am presenting my work on the 1st: I do thesis in computer science I work on recognition of symbols...) after, I am free, I would like to discover the korean culture (the town, the streetswith marketplace, the most beautiful temple, I am open to any suggestions) but most of all I want climb: 1 day for visit and the others for climbing.
I agree for all: I am ready to leave further if the cargs are better but I would like spend less time on the road and most time on the rock. (also I can take my sleeping bag for camping)
overhung,slab... I don't have any preferences (something easy). I want to discover beautiful crags, landscapes... with you, I hope!

Cheers

JP

PS: forgive my english mistakes (it's worse again when I speak !) You come from Canada: perhaps you speak french?

Heidi & friends -
(Heidi, it'd be good to see you again if you're free on Monday and Tues. I'm looking to climb hopefullly in Seoraksan on MOnday and perhaps part of Tuesday before going back home. Any chance any of y'all could make it out there then (5-6 Sep)...or maybe to Sonanasan as a back-up. Or anywhere away from Seoul, really...

Hi Kirby,

Are you free this Saturday and Sunday? I have to work again on Monday at 8 in the morning, but would like to climb on the weekend. We're thinking about maybe Gangwon-do (Awguhlbawi and/or Sotuwang Falls), or maybe Jeollabuk-do (Soksalbawi, Halmaebawi, Munbawi). Can you join? Maybe Jean-Pierre could also stay and climb with you on Monday or Tuesday so that the two of you would have someone to climb with. I hate to make someone come back earlier than they have to just because I have to work.

Give me a shout ASAP if you are interested. My number is 016-9223-1369. I will also check the website every day.

Hope to hear from you soon!

Ciao!
Heidi

hello kotr clan,
i will be free from sat - tues, and need to get out of town. i'm tentatively driving/meeting up with kirby for mon/tues in soraksan, but would love to start my weekend earlier.
i don't know where most of the places mentioned are and unfortunately i don't have much online free time to look them up. BUT, i'm very flexible so let me know where you decide (and if anyone needs a ride) and i'll check out the directions before i hit the road this time. ;)

I'm still trying to figure out what on earth I'm doing this weekend. Now it looks like Sat & Mon-Tues are free. If you want to come south to the places you mentioned, I could meet you for the day Sat, and meet Rick for Mon-Tues, with some other friends from here. Let me know.
