Oh brother! KA and I got there in spitting rain, warm weather and the place was pretty dead empty...about 8 others in total! But despite the slushy conditions and drizzle it was quite a good day. The ice was soft and super easy to climb...except that picks sunk in a good 3-4 inches with just gentle swings and the chandaleirs that held us before ripped through like crunchy peanut butter on anything thin! Still a great day to work on endurance and footwork. Thanks a million to KA who belayed me up and down 9 routes in quick succession.
Also met a pair of Taiwanese climbers who found Yeong Dong via KOTR of course! They may be heading up north to Seoraksan soon, so anyone up that way keep an eye out. Mr Li and Mr Lai are very friendly and nice guys (good ice climbers too!), but speak very little Korean. Their English is great though. If anyone out there is thinking Nepal exped this summer, get out and onto some ice for a laugh and a taste of things to come too.

Do you have contact with those Taiwanese climbers? I'm flying over from Hong Kong on Monday 2 Feb for 8 days. I'm looking for someone to go ice climbing with but I don't know anyone, Korea or Korean at all. I'm Chinese from Hong Kong. It'll be great if I can find someone to climb with during my stay. Check out my other thread about looking for partner to pass on my details if you know someone is available to climb.

Kin! Hi, I just got your message. I met up with the two Taiwanese climbers again today at Yeong Dong, I think they will head up north to Seoraksan area - maybe Maebawi ice fall or Shilso Pokpo. Boty areas are on KOTR under search climbs. Mr Lee ("Mountain Lee" is his English name, how cool!) gave me his business card, and I'll send you a pm (private message) via your KOTR log-in page with Mr Lee and Mr Lai (Lai Ming-yu) e-mail address. Maybe they will see your post also, as they use KOTR too. They are very nice guys, good climbers and well equipped too.
If you can't meet up with them, no worries there is a group of us foreigners here that will be ice climbing regulary, and you'd be very welcome to join us.

O2 World "Palace of Ice" in Seoul city is a giant indoor ice climbing wall, that can be fun, and Yeong Dong here near Daejeon (Taejon) is great outdoor area.

You guys seem like a great bunch. Back in Britain where I usually live, there's a website called UKClimbing.com. The vast reservoir of information and helpful people there like you guys is just phenomenal. It's great to meet up with like-minded people enthusiastic about the same things.

Ikiehn and Shanja, you guys sound like you're up for some action next week (reading Shanja's Yeong Dong thread). I wouldn't mind tagging along with you guys if it's alright with you. I'll find my way down to Daejeon.

I'm sure if you guys ever visit Britain, I'll definitely return your favour and show you around some of the best rock and/or snow/ice in the British Isles. Yes, there are loads to be done. In fact, from what I've heard, the ice is building up nicely on Ben Nevis in Scotland at the moment.
