Would you please put blue color in the bottom of the circle "letter O" of KOTR left upper side of this main screen. There is red color on half top in the "letter O" ... Take close look at the Korean national flag, BLUE & red circle in the flag represents South Korea & North Korea. From my point of view, somehow feel not so good.. everytime open this web site watching red color only in the "letter O". Well... I don't know I should point out this...I'm a Korean.

Hi,
I pointed out this curious aspect of the logo here: http://www.koreaontherocks.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1384

It seems that instead of changing just this part, the site managers are looking and waiting for a brand new design.

I'm a Korean American, btw, if it matters.

I was thinking I might be a only guy to point out the aspect of the logo here. Thank you for sharing the same thought... BUT I do not mind if it's gonna be changed or adopted new logo. Just a good suggestion I believe.

Thanks for giving me inspiration to play. Check out the pic on my profile. Obviously, someone with actual talent should design it if it's acutally being used, but it's a concept.

Mountain image was stolen from http://picasaweb.google.com/triumph.travels/SeoraksanRide#4989659689876914194

I just used the 'difference' function under the paintbrush in photoshop to blue the mountain and the rest was just done with basic functions and layers.

Again, just an idea.

From a technical perspective, that image, while interesting, wouldn't be great for a logo. One of the big things you must think of is how it looks reproduced on different materials. While that looks cool on the internet or paper, it wouldn't reproduce well on fabric (unless you used really high quality printing=$$$) b/c of how complicated and detailed it is. Really cool image though! :)

Yeah, but a simpler version could be made. That's why I leave it up to design people. Could be a solid blue mountain silouette, maybe with some white lines to define the moutain face/terrain.

Hey, I just saw the thread. . .literally seconds after PMing the lovely d. . .

Joe and Dong-il. . . do you think Koreans would mind the flag image in the book? Something I might hand-off to a graphic designer?

Dong-il, I guess somehow it wasn't clear to you that I had moved on with the thread and was discussing lovelydeirdre's image (http://www.koreaontherocks.com/forums/member.php?u=1414)?

It's an eye-catching logo that combines a national symbol of Korea with the mountains-- not so far off from what the book is about!

Just wondering... which stands for South Korea, blue or red?

Actually, officially, blue means Yin and red means yang, but most korean regard the color of blue as right wing(south korea), red as left wing(north korea). Anyway korea is the only country devided into two nations in the whole world, so it'll be better idea to be neutral when it comes to concerning sensitive matters. I believe Korea still has clouse like (criminal)contempt of national flag... well I really do not want to talk about this matter any more.

Should I take the image off my site then? I like it, but if it's offensive in anyway, I'll remove it.

Sonia, LovelyDeirdre, I think the modified flag is lovely. If I were being careful, I'd say, make sure to keep it red and blue as it is, and try to keep the amount of area occupied (!) the same.

(I'm still . . . working . . . on the ridge chapter, Sonia).

I actually liked the mountain/ flag logo idea. Of course it's very important that we respect Korean peoples feelings and symbols too. But the Yin-Yang is an imported symbol from India via China, not pure Korean, so I think there is a little pedantry in arguing about it too much. No matter how it is represented (black and white/ blue and red or tri-colour) it's essence is meant to convey the "one-ness" of everything and how opposites are just artificial constructs of human (worldy) perception. It suggests that everything changes and reforms and that natural balance and harmony are dynamic forces. It is not meant to be a symbol of political warring any more than the poor old Buddhist "swastika" is meant to be a symbol of right wing national racism.
If somehow people see this as divisive or disrespectful, then I think it's sad and totally at odds with the symbols traditions. A few foreigners were trying to incorporate some Korean identity visually into KOTR, because we all love this country so much. Please take no offense where none is intended. Perhaps a less controversial symbol that still represents Korea (north, south or the whole peninsula!) could be suggested. In many ways it probably would be best if some of our Korean members could suggest this to us. But I know language is a barrier...

Joe, I can see why you'd think so. . . it being a Seorak Ridgeline and all;) Hope law school is treating you well. . . ? But still dreaming of ridgelines!!??

Jake. . . nicely put. . . no one should take offense where none is intended (especially when just the opposite is true, as in the case of Eric designing the site), but of course, explaining any cultural issues or tactfully raising awareness that we (foreigners) might not have considered is always welcomed!
