I'm getting close to signing a contract with a school that has two locations available. One in Haeundae and one in Guseo. I opted for the one in Guseo because it seems less touristy, has good climbing, and I heard that the surfing in Haeundae almost always sucks. Is this true.

Has anyone tried to surf in Korea, and has anyone ever seen a wave higher than head height on the mainland?

No wave higher than head in Busan I believe, but a few surfers are recently being seen in Songjung beach next to Haeundae. Quite Not like in L.A I suppose, just for foretasting something like that I don't know...
Yeah, Guseo(구서동) area would be a bit better in terms of noisy, touristy, climbing accessibility. Good luck!!!

yes, when there is a tropical storm coming from indo or the philipines there is a swell in songjung. however, it is very sporadic. I was there for two extended weekends and had only one day of good waves. Most of those six days the water was completely flat.

i've surfed a couple times at haendae (sp), and it was less than stellar... we're talking baby waves...baaaaaaaaaaaaaby waves, just enough to get the deck skimmin... i'm sure when the storms are rolling you're going to get some swells, but expectations should be very low.

nevertheless, it is surfing! still a blast. and there's a surf shop not too far away, although i've forgotten where...
