i have become such a climbing addict to the point where it dictates where i want to take a job based on how good the climbing is in the vacinity. i got offered a job in ansan, yes it is at the english village, and it pays really good money, BUT, if it means that my access to good rock would require me to drive for hours, well, money is only worth so much.
i currently live in ulsan, where there is great rock close by and i am able to get out 3 times a week if i want. ...but honestly, aside from good rock, the city is ****. ...so can anyone give me any insight as to how far i might have to travel from ansan to get to any decent rock?

Real rock? I know Anyang Stadium had an artificial wall, and Suwon had some gyms (at the turn of the millenium at least); I'd imagine Ansan would, too. If you want to be outside. . . geesh, don't stay in Ulsan or go near Seoul. . . the pollution! Anyway, I think You'd either have to head to Pukhansan north of Seoul; to Kanhyon, near Wonju; or south a bit. . . all a few hours. Of course, they don't call this place the ROK for nothing-- the other option is scope, develop?, and post!

In Daegu there is alot of climbing and It is very close to the city. If you meet some of the locals they are happy to take you too. There are also 3 indoor gyms for the winter season.

Since i am leaving in two months, i wont decieve you into coming here to be my climbing partner. I live in ansan. its not so good. there is a poor climbing wall, a 10 m funtown. SuAmbong is natural, has about ten climbs. most of them short, from 5.9's to 5.12s. good fun and not busy. i belong to a climbing gym, typical basement deal with a higher than average ceiling. not that that says anything. guys are nice though. anyang is about 40min away for a good wall. course you are close to seoul, and only an hour from the big bongs. climbing club has regular trips out that way, you are an hour and a half from wonju ( one of my favourites ), and strangely closer to sokcho than ulsan by the bus in my experience. havent explored daebudo the island where you work though. any other questions bout the area, let me know.

hey dehaan, thanks for the info. ...even though there doesn't seem to be anything like 5 minutes away, there seems to be enough climbing in the area for me to enjoy :)

...i'll be working at the english village. ...please tell me you have heard good things.
