Another awesome weekend at Ganhyeon. Yoonjoo and I took the Friday night train and got there at 10:30, set up camp next to the river, and there comes Brandon. Nice cozy fire with 1/2 a pack of Costco bacon a la Joe.
Next morning, we stumble on to Lindsey and Nicola at the other campsite!
The usual hike up the mountain and rappel down to get the adrenalin flowing . . .
Around lunchtime Dom finally makes it and shows us his "rusty" .11 - .12 skills.
In return for my belay slavery, I finally learn the ins/outs of that most controversial of climbing tools, the Grigri. I also get a toprope for Elida (which I finally pull myself through after a lot of hangdogging and beta courtesy of Dom; I think Nicola's redpoint the previous day challenged me to do this : )
We also meet a tall, lean, very nice Korean climber named Jeongsoo, who makes stuff like Elida and 물결, which Dom was working on, look like a piece of 떡. He was literally doing one-handed pull-ups on a lot of moves. It was cool that he knew some kotr people like Sonia.
That evening, larger campfire with wood brought down from the forest in the tradition of Mil-Mil and crew. We had kimchi cchigae (made from free kimchi from our camping neighbors), plus chocopie smores for desert.
Nights a bit chilly for my featherweight sleeping bag, so grabbed a minbak with the guys; yoonjoo was fine in her -5 uberbag
Sunday did a sweet 4-pitch multipitch one over from the left-most route.
Of course, we stopped after 3, because the last one was a 5.11b overhanging crack.
Used my reverso to top-belay my second the way I saw Jake do it--quite handy that.
Yoonjoo the daredevil wanted to try simul-rappelling, so did that--saves a lot of time.
Finally, got yoonjoo to finally go for her first lead.
All in all an awesome trip; learned new things; saw how the members of kotr can learn a lot from one another and help each other to get better (e.g. i learn new climbing stuff from others; others learn secret chocopie smores procedures from me).
sooo, is it too early to talk about this coming weekend? I thought I heard something about Bukhansan . . .
