rope storage life beta please!

my friend has a rope that she's stored for a couple years. i don't know if it's clean or how it's stored, but is it safe to use a rope that has been properly cleaned and stored in a dry, cool place after it's been latent for years? i.e., does a rope age while it's stored? thanx yo

Sounds like it might be better than a rope that's been climbed on, fallen on, stepped on, dirtied up and left in the sunlight/rain. . . give it a full check for weak spots, tie in climb on!
