Hi there,

I'm working in the USA for the summer at Outward Bound and am looking someone/group to climb with when i stopover in Korea from the 1st to 30th of Sep. I will be packing my personal climbing gear but will not have a rack or rope. Am willing to be a belay slave to return the favour of someone bringing me to climb. willing to split gas money and stuff like that. no worries.

Can climb 6b+ comfortably.

E-mail me at endwar@hotmail.com

hi ray

im sure you'll be able to find plenty of partners when you come. September is a nice time to climb here. Where will you be staying? will you be working during the week?

eric
ps. what OB are you at? I spent a summer working at NCOBS.

hi there Eric,

wouldn't you know it, i'm going to NCOBS. Small world mate. Looking forward to it actually. how did you find it?

I'll be in Korea for a month and i plan to travel all over if i can. I will have a tent as well so i can rough it at the crag as well.

I'll fly into Seoul naturally and will work my way down the East cost and south and back up the west coast. not working whilst i'm here.

so where can you recommend that i go meet some local climbers who are willing to share a climb?

Wow, thats pretty ironic. NCOBS was cool. The people there were fanatstic. I really enjoyed all the people i met. i didnt stay because staying in the field all summer long was not up my alley. I wouldn't mind going back and doing climbing staff. Will you be on climbing staff? Are you doing New Staff training or are you going through the instructors course?

as far as your trip is concerned, it sounds sweet. i guess i can give you more tips if you let me know what kind of climbing you are into. What do you really want to do? trad? sport? multi-pitch? slab? overhang?

mostly in the north of south korea there is trad, slab and multi pitch but as you move south it starts to get overhung and turns to sport.

i think the biggest difficulty of your trip will be finding partners during the week. i think you could always find someone at insubong everyday. thats in seoul. you might be able to find some people at soksal bawi in seonunsan park too. maybe also yeongyeong in daegu, since its in the city. also, daeryuk bong might have some mid-week climbers because thats in the middle of busan.

you should have no problem finding climbing partners on the weekend. also, we should be able to climb together on the weekends.

there might be other people here that wont be woking mid week, so try posting sometime in august if you can.

btw, are you heading anywhere else after korea? do you know people here? do you know Paul at NCOBS? he is also singaporean.

i'd love to meet some NCOBS staff in korea so please post before you come and we will hook up

later

hi there Eric,

small world huh? Well, i'm typing this from the Asheville town office so it's quite surreal.

Well, as i didn't plan to do a whole lot of climbing in Korea when i planned the trip, i'd be happy with anything at this stage. i'll climb anything as long as it is within my capabilities. I didn't know it would be easy to hook up with groups to climb so i'm glad that it might be easier than i expected. would be great if we can get to climb together eric. come nearer, i will post the topic up again and see how things go from there.

I am going through New Staff Training and i really hope i get to do a lot of climbing at Table rock in my free time.

Never heard of Paul. Was he there for over a summer? Plenty of things i don't know about so i need to bone up on NCOBs history ...

I do have a few Korean friends and i don't think they climb... and i'll be heading back to Singapore after the trip to Korea, to prepare for a trip to NZ in Dec.

well, you've been most helpful Eric, look forward to climbing with you.
