Hello all,
I just arrived back in Korea after bumming around for a year. I am thinking of heading out for some ice on the 24th and 25th before starting work again in March. Does anyone know the conditions in Hwangjeok Pokpo, Maebawi, and/or Shilso Falls, is it still a go? hope someone has some info. thanks for the help.
looks like the conditions are good at shilso. check out the new pic from 2-19-2005 here: http://www.koreaontherocks.com/gallery.php?type=2&area_name=25

Hello all,
Can anyone give me directions to Hwangjeok Pokpo or Shilsa, i'm relatively new here and will be heading out from Seoul.
Appreciate any help anyone can give.
Thanks!
Scotty.

Will be driving up by car hopefully.
Thanks,
Scott.
To get to Hwangjeok Pokpo (falls) from Seoul:
First head to Daejeon
Take the Yuseong exit
Follow the signs to Gyeryong Mountain National Park
Once you arrive at the park, drive to the campground(camp sites).
if you park at the top of the hill, walk about 100 meters back down the road from which you drove up
When you start walking the small, narrow road that takes you to the campsites and the road turns steep, look for a trail on your left. The trail is about halfway between the campsites and the main road. It is also very faint, so look carefully. there might be snow and therefore footprints.
Follow the trail veering right so that it takes you through a small gulley. Eventually, the trail starts heading up the valley. Follow the trail for about 20 - 30 minutes and you'll walk right into the face.
Total hike-in time is about 30 minutes.
its a small area but gets shade all day. today is 50 degrees farenheit so keep that in mind. im sure its starting to melt away. you may have better luck at maebawi, but you'll have t batttle the crowds
hope this helps
call/write if you have any more questions

Eric, you're a star - greatly appreciated. Will try and get up there this weekend and check it out. I'll drop you a mail to let you know the conditions, unless you're heading up there yourself.
Once again, big thanks.
Scotty.

Errr.....sorry Eric, beer monster got the better of me Saturday night. I guess if the weather stays like this all week ice will be out of the equation for next week too.
