what's your favorite area(s) and favorite climbs in Korea?! I'm curious. Tell me why, and also, give me a rough idea how many places you have been (and where) Thanks!!

I'll start off, but my there are many! I like Sununsan and Kanhyon!! Good memories! I like Seoraksan, for it's epic potential and alpine style climbs and views into valleys below fairytale spires and water-color mists. . .

I like Daedunsan! Well, it's the only outdoor climb I've gone on so far in Korea : )
But it's still awesome: great views, nice trad multi pitches, cool people . .

Sonia, I see you're not climbing this weekend.
I was lazy in the morning; now I think I'll go out to the river bed and see if anyone's still around. At least I'll get a hike up to Baekundae out of it.

I'll be boring and predictable and say my faves are:
Insubong, just because it offers so much variety in climbs, and great quality rock. The views and atmosphere there is also pretty special.
Ganhyeon because it has great lines for all levels of climbers and is family friendly (good god how wussy does that sound!:o )
Yongseo Pokpo despite the poor bolts and anchors, it is really beautiful, and has every grade covered.
Ulsanbawi would maybe make #1 with me, but I've never climbed there. Still it is the single most stunningly clean and radiant lump of rock with incredible lines and setting (you can see her unexpected white greatness across the lap of Seoraksan's Bronzed Buddha Statue, rising like a Moby **** from the great green swell of the forst).

I think i am going to have to say my favorite place is Ulsan. Due to the amazing locals and the fact that there is over 100 climbs there with a little bit of something for everyone... not to mention the amazing temples that are there... mind you i think the temple at the bottom of the mountain is better then the one half way to the summit. Close secund would be a tie with Dae Ryuk Bong in seoul, it was the first place i climbed in Korea and i always end up climbign hardest while i am there. the rock is beautiful and astetically pleasing. third will be Yongseo-pokpo My first trad lead ever amazing view amazing rock, great locals, grades form 5.8-5.13 cracks faces and a few roofs. the only down fall to this place is the seriouly sketchy anchors on almost every single climb. I've climbed insubong, tried climbing soraksan a few times but was corssed with rain(soraksan is probably the most beautiful place i have been in korea, but as said befor i was rained out so couldn't list as favorite for climbing), Ganhyung, 2 places in Yosu, Halmae bawi, soksal bawi, buchai bawi, and a few others i cant remember.

I think the best quality rock is at Seonunsan and Kanhyeon, respectively. I also really liked Dae Ryuk Bong, outside of Busan. You can poach nice camping there. :)

I've been to Kwanaksan (sp?), Namhansanseong, Seoraksan (Inje side), Yeongso Pokpo, Sinban Am, Horangsan, Insubong, Moraksan, Munsusan, Bae Bawi, Halmae Bawi, and of course, Seonunsan, Kanhyeon, and Dae Ryuk Bong. I've also been to a few other small crags (a couple near Songnisan) that weren't very great, seeing as how I can't remember the names.

For good rock, solid anchors, a good collection of beginner friendly routes, variety (even a little multi-pitch), easy access and camping, Kanhyeon takes the prize.

For beauty, rock quality, really cool routes and nice camping (sauna!), I'd go with Seoununsan.

that suana is great after a day of getting rained on isn't it.
