Okey-dokey my Epicurean friends, here's the deal. If you are in Daejeon and looking for something a bit different, something a bit fancy (but still value)...a special occaision, a romantic dinner, missing haute cuisine, or just outta curiosity why not try out "Solpine International Restaurant" at Woosong University. (not far from Daejeon I.C., the express bus terminal or train station).
Solpine is a full-blown 5 Star International Restaurant, run by Woosong Uni's Culinary Arts Department (where I work too). It is the highest ranked Culinary School in Korea (with 4 year Bachelor and 5 Year Master Programs), and has on staff currently:

1 American Master Chef
1 French Master Chef
1 Austrain Master Chef/ Pastry Chef
2 Japanese Master Chefs
2 Chinese Master Chefs
1 Swiss Master Chef
1 German Master Chef
1 British Master Chef
12 Korean Chefs/ Master Chefs.

So you are not being served by trainees nor novices but by industry professionals, all who we pinched from 5 Star Hotels across the globe. Is it expensive? Well no, not really. Lunch menus run from 6,500won a head to 30,000won-ish.
Desserts are to die for. I have attached the current menu.
Bon appetit!

Can I assume the Sheperd's Salad, “Gol-Dong-Ban” and Fermented Black Bean Sauce with Noodles are 100% vegetarian?

What are the hours? Do we drop your name (or will you join in)?

Sonia, yes they are 100% vegetarian! Rick mate come on over! The best deal for sweet toothed types is that desserts all come with a coffee/ green tea free! And at 1000won each they are awesome! Personally I like the Duck, but we just finished making white German sausages today and they and the Bratwurst are damned fine too. Good selection of wines available, and even if I can't get you a discount (none of us at Culinary Arts does! ) I can prob'ly get you some service extras and a place to crash 5 mins away!

Quick report:

The rib eye steak is just right, carrot soup is bowl scraping good, desserts are 1000 each, and the locals are quite hospitable (1). Highly recommended, even worth the trip out from Seoul.

(1) by the name of J. and KA . They've been known to bring out home brews as well.

OK folks well the new meenu is up for semester 2 and here it is! If you be a swinging cat in the KOTR Daejeon crew, or a passer-through, why not treat yourself? It's all over in Dong-Gu, Jayang Dong, Woosong Tower, 13th Floor.

Hi Joe. . . yeah, that was last Thanksgiving, hun. . . not exactly a veggies' delight, but the wine, desert and company more than made up for it!

Jake- can you suggest perhaps a veggie entree for next time?
