Southeast Asia Backpacking

Anyone have any information about backpacking in Vietnam/Cambodia/Laos? I'm planning to head down there in mid-February and the only stuff I can find online is for guided tours.

There's a well beaten trail through all of these. . . assuming you're going to Hanoi, Saigon, Angkor Wat, Vang Vieng, Luang Prabang, Bangkok, Chaing Mai. . . they'll be someone to take your money and help you find transportation, accomodation and/or whatever you want. . . or look for the folks in the beer laos t-shirts and sarong-skirts and follow them. . . there's no need at all for a guided tour, but honestly, do-it-yourselfers pretty much end up with something similar-- tourist busses, hanging out with other tourists and generally short times in each place, so if a tour is inexpensive and goes where you want, it might save you some hassle-- and possibly time and money.

or, you could pick just one or two places, park yourself there, get to know folks, visit all the little towns and villages in the vincinity . . .
