So I went up to O2 World today and I never expected it to be that far away. The gear there is extremely expensive. In the background there were some nice mountains saying "CLIMB ME" lol. Who else makes it up there every now and then?

That's Insubong in the background. . .
Who else makes it up there every now and then? on a Sunday, every other climber in Korea (every 7th has his/her grandmother in tow) . . . M-F practically no-one! Also some awesome bouldering on the campsite boulders. Do a search in climbing-bouldering+Seoul-- lots of amazing climbers on this site developed a lot of problems. People tend to get to the boulders more than the routes?
You can order gear and have it shpped to your APO generally cheaper. . . most imported stuff (top quality) is way expensive here. Trango and 5.10 make some things here, and can be had for reasonable prices. Dogdaemun Market will fetch you better prices than the ritzy O2 World. 02 is worrth the kitsch factor of climbing on the world's largest indoor ice!

OK so let's have a mini-ice-climbing gettin' started day at O2. I'm only a bumbly myself, and way outta shape, but let not the bitter snap of the coming winter chills turn your thoughts from climbing dear friends. NO, no, no.:nono: Go on, fair suck of the sav', you oughtta give ice climbing a go, at least once.
We need set a date and see who is in, then turn up. You can hire gear there, or borrow from fellow KOTRers who show up. BUt for the love of God (Buddha, Allah, Me or whomever) beg, borrow or steal a helmet and warm jacket + gloves (yeah, ski gloves are good enough).
I vote we do it December 8th (Saturday) because the next day is U.N. International World Mountain Day, and there will be some sort of conference thing on in Seoul that I am delivering a speech for.:blah:
So hereafter sign up!

maybe just maybe...... we could do a day of O2 world and a day of Insubong? Everyone will be there and it is a perfect opportunity for everyone to get some nice climbing in, but I will defiantly be at O2 world for this

if we were to do insubong it would have to be one of the mountaineering routes like AK II. climbing insubong in december with the tempratures would not bee enjoyable at all.

I was up at Insubong looking around for some boulders and stopped in at O2 on the way out. I read this thread a week ago and am interested in joining. I know that some of you other people are probably better equipped and experienced to do this sort of stuff, but will it be an option for someone who has never ice climbed? Got a friend who might be interested, but I would love to join.

mickileepaul, I have no ice gear at all so I would be renting everything. Im sure a lot of KOTR's will be renting gear.
Mil-Mil, I have no idea what AK II looks like but sounds good. It is along way for me to come and for you just to get in 1 day of ice climbing in a gym :-P. of if maybe we could go somewhere else that would be more enjoyable that weekend.

Eartaker: Insubong is the mountain right next to O2 world, the route i was talking about is on that mountain.

ahh, but would it just be hiking or climbing? don't really understand what you mean.

Hey, I've never climbed the walls at Insubong, only bouldered a few times. But I know there are routes for 'climbing'. Lots of people climb there. You can hike to the peaks if you want. I think the route she might be talking about is on a quieter face, outta the wind maybe. It's getting cold, and by the 8th of Dec, probably going to be colder. I'm probably not telling you anything new. Most people have a better grasp of Insubong than I do. Wish I'd been there more.

I was wondering why I couldn't find this thread . . . it's in climbing chat! Can someone have it moved to upcoming trips? that is, if it is happening.
I'm still interested.

I haven't seen any new information in regards to Dec 9th at O2. I'm still in, as I'm sure others are as well. Just curious if anything has been found out about rental fees (if we got a group rate or something). I have read on their site that it costs 10,000W per hour on the ice wall. But when I was there last (at the 2nd floor retail shop) the gentleman who was working (he spoke near perfect English) said that it cost 10,000W for the day on the ice wall. Maybe he got the ice wall confused with the gym, but some confirmation would be good for the rates. I've never been before, but looking forward to it nonetheless!
