Hi,

I just joined the site. I've only been climbing for a couple of years on and off (see my profile for more details), but since I'll be in Korea for the next year or so, I thought it would be a good chance to do more climbing and maybe even get into some trad and multi-pitches.

I just rented a place near Jamsil in Gangnam, and noticed through this site that there is an artificial wall in ttukseom. Does anyone on this list climb that wall regularly? I'd love to meet up and get some pointers on local climbing ettiquette, etc.
Also, I really regret not bringing my harness/shoes/rope/quickdraws. I do remember reading that some military members might be open to receive packages for other members. Anyone feel kind enough to do that, perhaps in return for me buying them dinner at that restaurant inside the Yongsan base? (I do have a nephew on the reserves here, but he has to pick up mail in Pyongtaek, and he goes down there only once a month).

I'd be grateful for any input on the above two issues, and any other pointers as well. I was thrilled to find this informative site with very interesting and cool people, and I hope to get to meet some of you soon.

Many thanks,

Joe

Hi Joe! Looks like we're having a climber's get together in Seoul at the end of October-- that would be a great chance for you to meet people! When I was last at Tteuksom wall, there were lots of friendly locals. If you show up, you'll find people to climb with, but as with eveywhere, you'll want to watch belay styles before you let someone catch you! I'm living in Jeonju now, though! so if you ever come down south. . .

Hello! I went to the Ttukseom wall one day during Chuseok, it was really fun! They have beginner, intermediate, and advanced climbs. All the holds are really big and positive, so the ratings are mostly based on how much that portion of the wall overhangs. There are also some boulder problems. Even if your gear isn't here yet, it's fun just to watch people climbing. It's a pretty park area, right on the Han river.
