Just wanted to say we hit Ganhyeon last Sunday, and stone the bloody crows! was it ever busy. No, fair suck of the sav (Eric knows what I mean), it was packed fuller than a sumo wrestlers sock. Swimmers, bbqers, hikers, climbers, onlookers, locals...everyman woman and child and his/ her dog. Fair dinkum I thought we'd have to call in Moses to do his little party trick just to get a glimpse of the crag.
But, dear friends, we did see the crag and climb it. Kyung Ah set a PB of 8 pitches in a day (given it was a half day really, and crowded at that, pretty damn good), and I squeezed in 9 myself. The crowds were those perfect Korean crowds we so rarely hear about...though Kris & Jess did allude to them in a post once, super up-vibey, friendlier than flies at a picnic and terribly good humoured and supportive. We walked away (well, drove actually) feeling stoked and satisfied. And though the traffic jammed expressway is notorious twixt Munmak IC and Seoul, we avoided it pretty well and all too easily. Here's the good oil (skinny on the street/ beta) for folks from the south (Gunsan, Daegu, Daejeon etc).
Leave Ganhyeon like normal and head back towards the Munmak IC, but at the IC turn-off (a left hand turn just before the toll-gates) on route 42 GO STRAIGHT! Head towards Yeoju and Gangcheon (Ichon is yet further up this way). This road has a lot of traffic lights but is still a gazillion times faster than the choked expressway. Near Ichon you'll see signs saying turn-offs for expressways 35 and 1. Get on these and you'll be sweet as.
