View Full Version : seoul end-of-summer bbq/campout/climbing w/e???

alright, while goofing around in gwangmyeong, kim-lee, paula, tom and i had the amazing brainstorm to have an end-of-summer bbq and maybe campout climbing day/weekend this fall. because the idea is too good to just drop and let it go to waste, i'm posting it here and looking for feedback.

THIS IS NOT A MEET-N-GREET! not because those aren't super-cool, but just because i am way too lazy to try and get together something as formal as that. it's going to be in the seoul region, because i am too lazy to go on a big trip, and i know littledigits has trouble making it much farther than gwangmyeong too  (such an adventurous bunch we are!)... BUT, anyone and everyone is welcome (KOTRer or not, but we may need some RSVP action so that we aren't overwhelmed)! even if you're flying in from jeju-do (in fact, if you do THAT this lazy grrl has the utmost respect for your energetic being and will give you a lounging salute!)...

so here are my thoughts (b-team, littledigits, tom - if you ever sign up on this site - i want your help!)...

we thought it might be easy and fun to have the bbq at a climbing wall (if we can get permission)...sociable, easy to transport, unique...this could be gwangmyeong, eungbong, dangogae, etc... the only problem with this is a conceivable lack of camping areas - but could be a good one-day idea.

alternatively, there are the boulders at the bottom of dobong-san (haven't been yet, but i hear they're good), the campground and boulders at insubong/bhukansan, and other areas which i am sure are there and am just waiting for you to tell me about...

or we could go climbing, have the bbq on my roof (close to bhukansan), find someplace to sleep (folks are welcome to crash at my place, if they can fit, that is...) and go climbing again the next day...

other than that, what do you guys think about food, etc? a couple of us provide bbqs, charcoal, etc... and then it's BYO-everything-else (i.e.: steak, veggie burgers, chicken, 삼겹살, stout, margheritas, veggies n' dip, corn-on-the-cob, etc?)?

we could get some speakers and kim-lee could be our dj (yes, i love your taste in music, kim-lee!)...

as for dates, i vote for NOT chuseok weekend and NOT the meet-n-greet weekend ('cause i wanna go there too, of course...)

again, this is just an idea...still waiting for feedback from any and all interested parties...what do YOU think would be fun?

cheers!
dee

. . . you mention of Margaritas made me feel, well, espeially wanted:becky:

. . . you are braver than I. . . anything near Seoul and I am bussing it! Cha Cha doesn't do Seoul (though she might make it to Gwangyang, park, and let me go to Seoul!). . . and Dee, come on! You can train out to Kanhyon these days!!

First weekend of October we can celebrate my 1 year anniversary of quitting smoking (well, cigarettes, nicotine/tobacco!):D

I have off from Thurs 2:30 this semester-- so anything on a weekend in Seoul I will try to combine with some business (mostly Fri). . . (that's a vaguely hinted at request for a place to crash Thus and/or Fri PM!)

I like the idea of rooftop party-- have been to many great rooftop bashes in Haebangcheon. . . though admittledly the best were thown by my gay friends, and included hot-tubs (essentially inflatable pools with piped in hot H20!) . . . I hardly expect you to throw a party like business-people gay guys! Still. . . anyone have an inflatable kiddie-pool? Giant Kimchi container (that'll hold 6?!) We can buy hose cheap or all bring stoves to heat H20:p

I haven't been to Dobangsan since Taejun! OMG! Obviously it's gotta be in the book, so if anyone would wake up Sun and want to head there. . . I have a rope and rack. . . if your home is close, all the better. . .

I think there are several KOTRers in the Nowon NE Seoul area. . . maybe they could spread out the attendees and we could meet up for some Seoninbong-ing. . . Sept 29-30 or Oct 6-7 have my "vote" . . .

I'm in Heidi! I will admit that the idea of a roof bbq sounds awesome...although unfair to you to have to host of all this!

I'm in for what the grand jury decision will be! Just let me know when and I can give you guys a hand with the planning if needed.

cool...i' m glad everyone is stoked...for sure we want to see the boulderers come out! maybe a day of roped climbing (bbq at wall?), followed by roof something or not (bbq on roof?), followed by a day at the 'bong would induce them to come out of the woodwork? dave? other boulderers? thoughts on this?

as for hostessing, thanks for your concern amelie, but i don't plan to be too energetic about it...i figure if you just find a place, provide a bbq, people bring food and drinks, it's pretty much done...i wasn't thinking of doing a big entertainment show...although maybe we could set up a slackline on the roof, that would be entertaining!

and sonia...congrats on quitting the nicotine! i don't have anything against smokers, (except when they make ME smell like smoke, or light up when they're standing next to a pregnant woman or something), but i DO know that it takes a lot of strength to quit and that many people feel much better for having done it! i'm really proud of and happy for you!

okay guys, good job...keep the suggestions coming...nobody has really mentioned dates though...what do you all think of the first weekend in october, just as a suggestion? the 6/7th? that way, it won't interfere with chuseok plans, or the meet n' greet weekend, presumably...and people won't have to have their septembers packed? we can celebrate the end of the hot weather...friction will be getting good at the 'bong or any bouldering place we may decide to go to...

I say go for Insubong as the spot that way those that want to boulder can and those of us that still don't understand bouldering (myself being one of them) can go do a multipitch or something.

Hey Heidi, nice to see you got the message out. Finally got a chance to peruse the site after getting my butt indoors for once.

mil-mil: I concur. Coming from one who has been multi-pitching whenever she gets the chance, Insubong - whenever Sweet Slab.

For dates, how about the 15th and 16th? For those who are interested in planning a big trip for Chuseok, it'll be early enough to gather some beta from other interested bodies and late enough to get some preparations done.

Woo hoo. . .

C'mon Dave. . . I think I read "bouldering" somewhere?
Personally, besides Dee and KL, I'd like to see some of the Seoul area folks again: Scott, Gary, Corey?!
hmmm. . . climbing or bouldering. . . ? oh wait, sunday at Insu. . .maybe bouldering!

15-16 looks like the meet and greet (http://www.koreaontherocks.com/forums/t1003-auntumn-mampg-location-and-date-poll.html). . . we can celebrate alberto gonzales' last friggin day on the job:usa2: :clap2: :whoo: :rapture:

okay, how about we say it's at the bong...bbq at night (?)...camping at the 'bong campsite...bouldering or multi-pitch or even sport routes (there are some!) for whatever everyone wants (i'm in for at LEAST one day of bouldering! i'm bringing my pad!)...

do you guys mean sept. 15-16th? oh shoot, i just looked at my calendar and realized a typo on the meet 'n greet thread screwed me up. the meet n' greet is sept 3rd-5th? then yeah, the 15-16th for the seoul bbq sounds good...is everyone cool with that?

if so...hope everyone can make it out to both weekends!!!~ i'm planning to!

soooo...to recap...insu-bong on the 15-16th? does that sound okay? what do you all think? bring your own everything? (tent, food and drinks - feel free to collaborate with others on this as much as you want, i'm just not able to organize food and drinks stuff - climbing gear/bouldering pads/climbing weapons of choice, anything else you think might be interesting - i.e.: i'm bringing my slackline and hammock!) i'll try to round up a couple of bbqs, anyone want to give me a hand with this?

if you think you're going to make it out there, please just post here, so that we can try to get tent sites and have enough bbqs...

:becky: i can't wait! :becky:

Yeah-- I originally didn't realize that was the M&G when I made my previous post here. . . and at the very minute I edited my post, Dee was posting! (Er were you working on start-of-semester things while getting sidetracked to KOTR too?!)

With the runaway vote and people planning to get there, would it be possible to have the BBQ in the next couple of weekends? Seems silly to schedule two events that basically cater to the same people, so close and on the same weekend! And given the locale (swimming! beach camping!) it's an ideal time for meetin' and greetin' (and a better place to bring parents than a rooftop BBQ!)

i like this original idea though i know this was plugged as an end of summer deal.
M&G is (or most likely will be) SEPT 14-16,
chusok seems to interfere with the following weekend,
sept 28-30 got the 2nd highest votes so that might be a good weekend too.

Oct sounds good too! The weather'll be aweome, and less chance of rain on the BBQ (a terrible combination). . . seems like a lot of KOTRers in NE Seoul these days. . . we could always split up Sat night in terms of where people want to go and what time they think they can! on Sunday!

Plastic is probably the best way to meet up on Fri. . . Dong. . . Eunbong. . . and we can all follow D to the rooftop~

Maybe an indoor (O2) alternative in the event of rain?

climbergrrl
08-29-2007, 12:57 AM
i'm sorry that i have to make things so confusing:doh: ...i was just a little confused myself...

sooo...the MEET 'N GREET (NOT the bbq in seoul!) is going to be at ganhyeon on the sept 15/16th weekend, right? please somebody confirm this!!!!

it sounds like people are keen to go back to the original october idea, which i think is still fully an end-of-summer bbq, do you KNOW how long summer lasts in this country? friction on the rock is just getting decent again in october! and i will JUST finally be able to wear my much-beloved fleece and wool sweaters again!

sooo, how does THIS sound?
- oct. 6/7th weekend...
(- fri. night at an artificial wall sounds like a great way to kick things off, les, i'd be interested!)
- sat. at...insu-bong? (climbing style of choice?) sonia also had a good idea that if some people weren't sure of location, they could climb plastic somewhere that day, and then head to the bbq location together that night...
- sat. night...bbq (and camp-out?)...at insu-bong campsites?
- sun. climbing wherever and however you want...
- everyone who can make it out is welcome!!!

is that better? please keep the corrections and ideas coming guys, although we will of course eventually have to just narrow it down or it will never happen...

It'll be my second last weekend in these parts for a while, I think it sounds great. Can anyone else not sleep in this weather?!

skinsk
08-29-2007, 08:18 AM
Who can sleep, what with fan death lurking . . . ?

Dee-- Oct sounds perfect-- as it gives everyone time to make plans for both events and Chuseok, and the weather will be ideal.

So the BBQ at Insu. . . Do they have grills? Fri we're likely to have the place to our selves (or mostly so) so I do think meet-up Fri and climb Sat is best, as Sun at Insu can be a zoo. But man, this seems like it could be a lot of stuff to carry to the campground:rolleyes8 and if we stay Sat night, it might get very crowded.

I kinda liked the rooftop party idea. . .

Geez. From a September date we've ran through a whole month already. But at least for this year summer seems to be running long and very hot. Tried to sleep on the roof but couldn't cuz I was afraid I'd fall off. Childhood sleepwalking memories. October sounds great Heidi!

Dee and the Northern crew, this is sounding sweet. Early Oct, late Sept is all good. I like the sound of a Sat (early start, EARLY!) at Insubong, a long time since I did slab climbing....but, what the hell! I dunno about camping at Insu though, it will be super crowded and it's not a public camp ground. Only registered clubs can camp there...I'd hate to play the "ignorant foreigner" card, but maybe we can try and get KOTR accepted as a registered/ approved club at the camp ground. Any Seoul gym goers want to ask their bosses about how and who can get this "official" permission? Corey, if you don't mind doing a bumbly route, I'd love to swing a multi-pitch with you. We might even try and have several teams on diff 'bong routes all meeting for a Sat "lunch" at the top. If it looks like rain, I'll bring my ice gear and we can O2 it.

Jake, I registered with the Korean Alpine Federation (and unlike Daum and Naver-- I got on!!) I'll pose the question on their forum. KOTR should be a registered group. I mean, we have T-shirts and a banner!? And I think with Kyoung-ah at your side, it's hard for you to play the ignorant foreigner!

alright, let's get this thread back on track. have we confirmed a date yet? Either the second or third weekend of october sounds; good temps and hopefully little rain.
friday: plastic for early comers either in a gym or at a wall like danggogae which les mentioned. saturday and sunday: weather permitting at insubong. gear: pads or sport/trad gear.
accomodations: still unconfirmed as well. three ideas have been previously mentioned 1) camping 2) host-housing (i'm sure all the seoul-lites are willing to host whoever comes up) 3) we get accomodations together somewhere near the bong.
food: i'm not quite sure about this because i always rely on others ie climbergrrl (it's the college student in me coming out) haha...anyway we can sort out provisions after we sort out the other logistics.

fitzelq

Are we grilling out/eating at the Bong? Anyway, I would host visiting climbers, but I do live in Ilsan, which though on the left shoulder of Seoul, is ALL the way across the park to the Bong (like, 2.5 hours to the crag, though only 20 minutes to the eastern side of Bukhansan...hmmm...curious...). Still, the invite is open if needed.

I'm good for any weekend in October, though I will submit my vote for the third weekend, in order to "assure" good temps and give everyone another week after Chuseok. There's my two cents. Stoked to get out to the boulders/crag with the gang.

We could all wear lycra. . . Dee could wear her fro-wig . . . does it fit under a helmet?! could it stop a falling rock?! Could KL top Elvis. . . hmmm.

Maybe that first weekend in October Les could choose his favorite crag, one he hasn't been to, or something and have a send off party? Might as well do one last trip on your last weekend anyway!

I can make any weekend, but I like the idea of Seoul for Halloween. . . in any event, I'd like to plan a little ahead, so as soon as a date could be carved into stone. . .

i'm cool for either weekend, why not do both? seriously though...it'd be nice to have les there too, and since the 5/6th is his last w/e, i agree with skinsk that we should do SOMETHING! on the other hand, lots of people sound keen for the last weekend in october, too.

all i can say is, i'm going to be climbing EVERY darn weekend in october (unless i'm kayaking), and if you're not, you better get your priorities straight, babes! winter is coming soon and though the ice is sweet, time on the rock is limited (except at ganhyeon)! (ah, to world and time enough! there's never enough TIME!!!)

so...anyway...erhm...i will climb wherever les wants to the october 5/6th weekend, (assuming he wants my company :) ), and if he wants to have a bbq, then a bbq we will have! i hope lots and lots of people will come out for this, wherever it is. if it's in seoul, i offer up my rooftop to the bbq goddesses and crashing space for about two people (if they don't mind getting squished!). your call, les, if that's okay with everyone.

...AND...

i will also be at the Bong on the last weekend of october, crashpad in tow, although without the 'fro (i gave it away :( ). but i'm sure that i can find SOMETHING suitable to wear (or dig up another 'fro from somewhere)! i like fitzelq's idea for a theme, why don't we have people dress up as climbers from the 70s?!?!?!? i'm SO in! (i DEFINITELY need another 'fro then!)

if this seems to you all as the greatest solution ever devised in the history of mankind, then i humbly accept your accolades/request to run for president/queen (vote for dee!)

whatever happens...b-team, i still got yo' back in the eats department, bro. chicken? steak? fish? VEGGIES???

ooohhh. . .

where to get lycra in Korea. . . ? i mean, bad 70s lycra. . . OK. . . I didn't climb in the '70s. . . and given the age of the average KOTRer, can we do 70s-80s?!

So if KL does Elvis again,. .. he has to be "fat elvis"

fitzelq
09-19-2007, 11:11 PM
70-80's sounds perfect! But do we have to wear old EBs or Kaukulators to climb in??? Well, that might be the perfect excuse for not sending, I suppose...

skinsk
09-19-2007, 11:16 PM
old EBs or Kaukulators OK, who else besides me even owned Kaukulators?! Mine are somewhere in a basement in Longmont!. . . (I just couldn't part with them as they were my first climbing boots. . . a step up from the Adidas I used in Alabama in '85!) I actually got a 3rd place at a retro-dress-up at Mo Spo (before they were no mo like the BoMo--which is kinda back-- or your old place!!). . .

but dang, Dave, I just didn't pack the lycra!! (to be honest. . . don't really think I can pull it off these days!)

anyway, best digs gets. . . I gotta Mojo Pale Ale from Boulder that I'll throw in. . . anyone else?!

But it'll only go if someone has a good 70s 80s or kick *** costume idea. . .

the perfect excuse for not sending Dave, I just throw out the "in recovery mode" excuse. . . which is sadly:( usually appropriate. Or there's always Fri night as an excuse for not sending Sat . . . Holy moly. After the first two responses to my 'last weekend in October' suggestion, I thought I was going to be sacrificed on a jack-o-lantern... This is a pleasant turn of events.

My place (in Bucheon), though void of extra beds or a couch, is open to anyone who wants to crash for the SEOUL END OF SUMMER/VERTICAL COSTUME PARTY weekend at the end of October. And, since I will be spending the two weeks prior in Canada, a veritable fount of discarded spandex, I'll see what I can dig up.

This is going to be fun.

Cheers Dee and Sonya, if you'd be up for it, I've always fancied meeting up friday night for some plastic pulling. But early Saturday..... Kanyeon? Accessible for Kris, Jessie and most of us around Seoul. Honestly, if the climbing will be alright, its more about seeing people out there that'll do it for me. How does that strike you for either the 6/7th or both? if you think this could fly we could pop a new thread up just for that weekend. I've seen few threads that've made it this long!

I can fully appreciate the magic of scaling slab in 80's lycra on halloween!

So was this where it all started:confused8 i had one heckuva time diggin up this post. . . it was page two or something. . . anyway. . . is there a more specific thread for the seoul halloween thingy?!

is anyone free FRIDAY Oct 26 for a route? Dobong or Insu or something else?

oh, i'm looking for crash space from thurs the 25th. . . throw my stuff down b/t the kotesol conference and climbing and some meetings. . . i can cook a veggie meal or two. . . i need about 1X2 meters. . .

are we still down for 70-80's climber digs?. . . bad hair, lycra. . . i was just give some bitchin sweatbands!

sonia, feel free to crash at my place! and OF COURSE i'm down for 70's climber digs! hmmm...what did john gill wear in the 70's? kim-lee? dave? do you know???

Nope, the p-bar halloween party in mokpo is on saturday. There is a party listed on the mokpo facebook group for friday, but it sounds like someone's birthday party.

Hey Heidi mate, is there a min-bak, love motel or similar nearby to your place where KA and I could crash? If so can you you possibly pm me a phone number so as we can make a reservation. Also how long does it take from your area to Insubong enterance/ O2 etc?
Corey, If it's still cool with you I'd love to swing a few pitches on the bong on Saturday. How early would we wanna start? If it's not super early I might pop up on Sat am via KTX, if early then maybe I'd better swing up Fri night. KA won't be climbing yet, but wants to come up and hang out for the bbq and meeting and so on. Are we climbing Sat in costume bro?

Hey I'm sure the normal KOTR rules apply "the more the merrier". Don't wait for an official invite or until you know someone else going, nah, just rock on up matey. Looks like about a gazillion KOTers will be there. Oh, yeah, BTW I'll still need accom somewhere nearby, and maybe bringing 2 or 3 other climbing cats from Daejeon. Any ideas on where we might crash? Thanks!

Can we get a recap?
What?
Where?
When?

B-Team
10-24-2007, 03:11 PM
Okay recap.

What: Bouldering, Sport, and Trad climbing
Where: Insubong
When: This weekend. I'm not sure about the ropeguns' schedule, but the cordless crew will meet at the entrance of the park (the top parking lot, where the buddhist bus drops people off) at 11:00 on Saturday. Saturday night a BBQ on Climbergrrl's rooftop...right climbergrrl?
Things to bring: Food for the BBQ, gear, pads, sleeping bags, and the such.
Accomodations: Hotels, Minbaks around Insubong, my place, maybe climbergrrl's, and whoever else lives in the neighborhood...maybe Corey's place too?
Costumes: not a must, but it's the only day that you can dress up like the stay-puff marshmallow man and get respect!

anyone going alone so I don't feel left out? Is the entrance of the park up the road toward O2 World?

fitzelq
10-24-2007, 08:10 PM
It is. There are really one of two ways to get to the insubong trailhead.

Option A: Walk. It sucks. It's a long slog up asphalt with buses screaming by inches from your grill. No fun. Though, I have done it many times... Anyway, if you do opt for this masochism, just keep walking straight up the road, stay to the right when it forks, and you will come to the bus drop off, which leads me to...

Option B: Take "The Buddha Bus". So, the city buses (such as 120, 109, 144, etc.) will drop you off on the right side of the road at the very bottom of the shopping-district road, which leads to the aforementioned slog (and O2). Walk about 30 meters up the road and you will see a parking lot looking area on your left. To the right will be, I think, a small Black Yak store. There will probably be people in a line (in the parking lot area looking place), waiting for something...something wonderful. They are waiting for the Buddha Bus! If you jump in line right there you should be good to go. The bus will look like a tour bus, but it is free, so don't hesitate to jump on and grab a chair and revel as the 25 minute asphalt uphill lurch becomes a pleasant, if not slightly kimchi-rrific, 4 minute bus ride to the proper entrance to the trailhead.

Anyway, I think most of us are going alone and meeting up there at the trailhead (if yer pebble-wrestling like the rest of us boulderers) at 11, so cheers, and hope to see ya there.

Dave

Hey!
So I'm thinking about heading out to this shinding. Unfortunately for me I have to work Saturday morning until 1pm. :(
I am hoping to make it there by 3? Maybe 4 if I get lost...which is very possible seeing as I have never been there before and me and directions dont usually see eye to eye.
What time is the BBQ starting? Should I just meet everyone around Insubong area? Also, if there is any floor space available I'd be more than willing to fill it. But if not I can always do the minbak thing.

I have some shoes getting resoled that I am hoping to pick up?

I was not going to bring a rope, as I am going to the KOTESOL Conference. I should go Sat, but maybe can escape to do some climbing Sunday, so I won't be planning on any trad (I could be persuaded, but would like to know by today so I could bring my old trad shoes!) Of course, I am down for Sat PM-- where should I meet all?!

Hi,

I look forward to meeting as many nice climbing people as I can this weekend. I have two questions:

1. Can someone tell me where exactly the bbq will be? I gather that it is at the house of someone named Heidi, but no actual location seems to be posted. I'd greatly appreciate some directions from the nearest subway/bus station, as well as the grill time. I can bring some steaks (homeplus had a sale).

2. Is anyone interested in doing some climbing Sunday morning? I'm new to Bukhansan (new to Korea and relatively new to climbing as well), I have personal gear, but I'm an obedient and reliable belay slave. If anyone has rope and other gear, knows some mild routes, even short sport ones, and is willing to be patient, that'll just make my weekend. We could even form a small semi-beginners' group (like a kind of "charity climb" : )

3. Oh, I almost forgot. People may be interested that there is an annual garage sale at the U.S. Embassy Saturday (Sonya, I think you were headed there anyway, right?).

Thanks,

Joe

hello English speaking climbers! I am new in Seoul, I have been here for about 3 weeks, and I have yet to come across many English speaking climbers. I am dying to get outside but I don't have a pad with me (yes..i'm a boulderer, but I've got nothing against rope). I have mostly been on plastic, at various gyms in Seoul. I am about to move to Bundang (where i'll be living)-does anyone know what the climbing situation is like over there? Anyways, if anyone ever wants to go climbing (outside or inside), shoot me an e-mail, my address is michellelebla@gmail.com
Take it easy!

Alright, so my place is as small as they come in korea but I could house up to 2 people for the weekend. However, if you stay with me you have to abide by the one and only rule; put the towel under the door before you shower. You see, my shower leaks into my kitchen/office/bedroom and its really hard to dry out. It will be nice to see new faces and old friends!

okay, here's my plan! as i stated before, i don't want to organize anything  but this is what i'm doing and anyone is welcome to join me!

sat morning 1100h - meet boulderers in upper parking lot at insubong (the one that you get dropped off at when the temple bus takes you up or you walk if they won't let you on the bus with your big bouldering pad...alternatively you could take a taxi)

(i know some others are climbing the face instead of bouldering, no worries, you are still welcome to come to the bbq sat night!!! make your own day plans, but if people are planning to come to the bbq, please just drop a reply here so that we have some idea, in case it matters...:p )

sat night ~1900h - bbq on my roof (so far we have one grill - it's not huge, and i have no idea how to bbq, but it should be fun!) bring your own food and drinks, except kim-lee;) ... if anyone wants/needs, you can crash on my roof or in my house, or even my tent (floor space for about three people inside the house, if we're lucky, two in the tent^^, first come, first served)

*directions to my house 1. go to gireum/길음 station on line #4. it's a couple stops away from suyu/수유. 2. go out exit three. get on bus #1164. 3. take it all the way to the top of the hill and get off at seokyeong university entrance/서경대입구 at the buy the way convenience store. 4. phone me at 010-7273-5015 and i'll come and get you. my house is about a 30 second walk away.:) *

sun - breakfast on my roof!? more bouldering? ice climbing at o2? dunno yet! but it will be great, whatever it is!!!

cheers all!

hope to see lots of you out this w/e!

Hey!
Just a question. I've never been to Insubong before so if I go there by myself Saturday afternoon will it be hard to find everybody? Or will it be pretty obvious...
Also, count me in for the BBQ. I'm looking forward to meeting everybody!
Sunday I'm also up for some climbing. I'm still pretty beginner but if no one feels like leading some easier climbs for me I'd be happy if I could just practice belaying.

Odyssey mate, come on up we shouldn't be too hard to find. From the "real" trailhead (ie at the top after you get off the Buddha bus/ taxi/walk up) just follow the crowds up the only trail there is. You will need to pay an enterance fee right here too. It's a good walk, about 30 mins I think (been a while so maybe wrong). This will bring you to the unmistakeable Insubong camp grounds (permitted clubs only not public) and rangers hut. The climbing starts up the back from here, and can be a bit tricky to findif you are alone/ 1st timer, but any climber will point you the way (up and leftwards on small trail)...it's only a few minutes further (but not on the main hiking trail which goes straight down the valley past some porta-loos). I don't know where the boulderers will be exactly, but I'm guessing right inthis area near the campground (right??) so jot down a few folks cell numbers and call in when you arrive.

For those of you who did make it out for the BBQ, I just wanted to say thanks for all the pointers and encouragement. Curtis and I (Mike) had a great time! Even though we couldn't stick around for the BBQ, the day was well worth it. But damn, that hill is a **** climb on a bike!

Thanks again, and hope to see you all around sometime!
Cheers,
