OK funky folks, here is the poll on PLACE. Where do YOU want it? Dunno the places others are talking about? Look 'em up on the search climbs link thing and mull 'em over. Remember, no place (or date) will be perfect for everyone. But by contributing your voice we hope to satisfy as many as we can. BTW I'm not the boss dude, I have no veto powers or eveil influence, just putting this up there so you all can be empowered.:becky:

Oh sorry dudes, by the way (BTW) you CAN vote for more than one choice, of course! All voting is viewable by public (KOTR members can see want YOU voted for). Take your time, though. The poll closes in 45 days, so you have all been given due notice...but we'll be flexible anyways:rolleyes8 Thanks for being part of the KOTR World Domination Project. Later and best. Jake.

Last year I was able to take the full week and two weekends (plus the F and M) for Chuseok. Though last Chuseok we started the mega-Gangwon-trip at Kanhyon. . . but still
the earlier Sept weekend also might allow for some swimming
meeting folks at the M&G whom we may later visit for Chuseok or make plans with for Chuseok would be nice
. . . just some thoughts!

Sonia, you were at Kanhyun for Chuseok last year? You must have left right before we got there. We went that Friday-Sun after we got back from Jeju and we only saw Julie and Pat and a few Koreans.
Also, for anyone who is scared of the crowds that often accumulate at Kanhyun, there weren't many there last Chuseok. So don't be afraid!

Well, as I said, we are trying to get as many responses as possible first:boink: . The poll closes on Sept 9th at 6.17pm...it's been up for a few days and Eric e-mailed everyone on KOTR about the M&G. The decision will be made shortly there after BASED ON WHAT MEMBERS WHO VOTED HAVE INDICATED AS THE MOST POPULAR CHOICE. So far 13 people have voted. I think we have something like 90 odd active members:rolleyes8 , so if you (or someone you know and can 'have a word with') haven't yet voted please do so asap. Also feel free to post any dates NOW that would be unworkable/ really bad (Base inspectoions/ exams/ weddings/ working weekends etc) . WE WILL TRY AND ACCOMMODATE EVERYONE - AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE. I know many people say it's hard to make firm commitments and that you aren't sure what you will have on in the coming weeks, that's cool, but there are also a lot of folk who have other responsibilities and interests which need some measure of "in advance" co-ordination and so on. Weather might force a last minute totally unfair and undemocratic change in plans too...that's life, deal with it and plan for "the best" anyways. With no Eric to settle any differences (which he hated doing anyways) let's all try and be open-minded and as flexible with plans as possible. The poll is open so participate (vote for several dates/ places if your schedule lets you be so free) and offer useful ideas. Thanks for the interest shown so far guys.:thumb:

The poll closes on Sept 9th at 6.17pm..
hmmm. . . that sort of negates the Aug and early September options:ohwell:

No, not really. If people want those dates and actually vote for them we can agree (if it's a clear majority thing). KOTR Polls are open a max of 45 days (just the program set up not anybody's deliberate choice) so that is what I went with. We can have a 2nd and 3rd poll etc if need be, or we can be sensible and accept the majority outcome and just climb/ eat/ meet/ drink. Tell all your friends VOTE VOTE VOTE!

I could do Ganhyeon if T and I arrived in Daejeon beforehand. :) Getting back might be tricky, though.

I posted this question on the "general chat" forum, but since it impacts voting for me, does anyone have an updated link to the train timetable? The link on the sidebar isn't active anymore, and there isn't a way to access it via the English side of the website. The search page in Korean would be fine, but my Korean isn't strong enough to find the search page :( I'm home in the States or I'd call 1330.
I'm basically trying to find out if there is a train from Mokpo (I'll be moving over there in about a week and a half) to Wonju.
Thanks!

Hey Jessica, as Mokpo is fast becoming a KOTR centre (Ricky and Maggie are there too) I'll post this publicly. You can get a train (reg or KTX) from Mokpo to Daejeon, and from Daejeon regular trains run to Ganhyeon (you can go to Wonju, but Ganhyeon has it's own station too). I don't have time-table details, but I'll check. It should be possible to book straight through on a reg train to Ganhyeon, but a KTX toDaejeon ansd switch there would be faster/ more expensive.

No direct trains from Mokpo. . . you have to go through Seoul or better yet, Daejeon!
I could do Ganhyeon if T and I arrived in Daejeon beforehand. Getting back might be tricky, though.
I assume my car (and foot) will both still be working by then-- schedule permitting (don't know mine yet; but I'll want to head out as early as possible) there's room for y'all. . . get in touch when I get back if you're interested! We can do the sprint to Jeonju for the train thing again, but I can't/won't drive like Rick to get there!

Yeah depending on scheds and stuff there might be room in our car (toobonnie) for a couple...the Yeosu crew have 1st dibbs on these seats though. Maybe we should set up a car-pool mini-thread after we decide where and whens?

Thanks Jake.
Do they have the timetable search on the Korean side of the Barota site? That was one of the greatest tools for figuring out how to get around!

Just wanted to let you all know that since it's seeming that the M&G will be the weekend of the 14-16, Les and I won't be there. His mum will be in town, and my parents are coming to visit during that time, too. Bummer, but I'll be sure to show up for the winter M&G.
Have a great time!

There are min-baks for the tentless-- others may want to join you in this and we can help you to book ahead. Usually some folks have room to share in tents. You might be able tio borrow a tent-- check with your Korean friends and co-workers or your gym. A hammock or open bivy at this time of year may be plesant.
Parents are welcome to Kan-hyon! We took Mary's mom there (despite her minimal climbing experience!) She enjoyed the hike, the food, and meeting some of the climbers! My mom enjoyed visiting Kanhyon and Sununsan! Since y'all spend a decent bit of time and energy in Korea climbing, I'd think your parents might want to see some of the places (you could get a min-bak away from the rif-raf or make it a day trip).

Looks like KA and I will be only there for the Sunday (best man at a wedding on the Saturday) - assuming the super popular Sept 13-5th date carries; so we could lend our tent I guess. Brandon/Terri you can still crash at our place and we might even be able to drive you up sat morning (thereby getting tent up for others). Keep urging people to vote! The poll has been up for ages and still not 30 have bothered/ found time/ made a decision. Shame shame shame!:p

jake~!
what is the super popular sept 13th-5th date all about? is it a 51 week meet n' greet? hmmm...i can see why it WOULD be super popular! count me in!!! :becky: but...does it have to be at ganhyeon the whole time? :confused8 ;)
I've got a "mandatory" teaching staff workshop on the favoured saturday which I'm really stoked about, and with mama Avenue due to arrive, I've got a sweet sweet galbi dinner in store. If anyone would like Nicole's mom's autograph, let me know I'll get some extras. If you'll still have enough juice left for climbing sunday, I'll see you there! Sorry, my mom doesnt arrive until the next thursay. maybe in time for chusok climbing though....

OK so I'm only an English teacher...I think I meant to type the "super popular" weekend as being Sept 14-16th 2007 (Fri-Sun). Unless something really strange happens (like the other 70 odd KOTRers actually voting! May the heavens fall and the seas raise up in angered shock, should that ever happen) it looks like yeah, that will (almost 100% definitely) be the M&G date. Dee sorry to leave you hanging, but after the dates/ place ruckus last time...I refuse to be cast as the decision maker, look not to shanja to accept that burden...too many people bitch at anyone who take such initiative. Anyways I'll be at a wedding that Sat and only coming on the Sunday, so...it's not really fair for me to call this one. It will be super fun though, and Les I hope to see you with or without kalbi and mama. The folks down south will need some attention too (have you heard how lonely those Busan types are getting?!). Maybe another mini-M&G 2 at Yongseo again, or something after the end of summer Seoul fest?

So Ganhyeon on the 14-16th? Okay. Jake, mind if T and I come to your place on Friday and hitch a ride on Saturday AM so as to avoid the Yeosu-Gwangju-overnight-Gwangju-Seoul-Wonju crap? :)

If you're in Seoul, you're in luck, as there are direct trains to the resort (well, just outside the resort) from Cheongnyangni Station in E Seoul. The post on KOTR (at least the "additional comments") has the specific information on getting there.
I think I will be leaving here about 11:40 Friday, passing through Jinan 12:25, heading up through Dajeon (on 1-25), getting on I-50 at Icheon, and on to Kanhyon, hopefully in time for a little climbing before the big bash begins. If anyone on the way gets off early on Fri, PM me if you need a life. Still room for 2 more + gear.

As KA and I won't be able to make Saturday, you can have my tent dude....Brandon&Terri or maybe Sonia can pick it up and take it up to Ganhyeon on the Fri or Sat. KA and I will pop up as early as possible on Sunday. Oh and Brandon & Terri, of course the offer to crash en route at our place stands! Love to see you guys again.

Well, hell -- is there anyone between Yeosu and Wonju heading up Saturday AM? I'd really like to break down the long trip without relying on yeogwans and bus transfers, and still arrive Saturday.

how early can you get to iksan or jeonju on friday?
as usual, i'll bring p-cake mix, bananas, and walnuts. any other goodies you want in your cakes, please BYO.
the mexican feast is always a huge hit and is easy to prepare, though variety is nice.

Hey Dan and I will be there! We are coming from Seoul, probably Sat. morning early. We are in need of a tent if anyone has an extra we can borrow.
I second the vote for a food thread. Food is good. :)
