Gongji Stream Bouldering Walls
Submitted on October 10th, 2006 by skinsk Type: Artificial Walls    Province: Gangwon-Do    City: Chuncheon
photo If you enjoy an early morning (or evening) stroll along the stream-side bike and pedestrian paths that seem so ubiquitous in Korean cities these days, don't forget your climbing shoes when in Chuncheon. Watch the city wake up. . . and get your exercise at the fitness parks/badminton courts, etc that line the stream. In Seoksa-dong near Huseok Street (before the bridge) you'll come across two small bouldering walls side by side. Lot's of holds, most decent . . . don't write it off as a children's wall. Limit your "on" holds, try to move continuo... [Read More]

photo The length of the fall is roughly just over 60M. The ice is typically very good because the fall is hidden from the sun all day round. There are fixed static abseil lines at the top and to the left, a few bolted anchors and a few trees at the top. Roughly five route lines can be climbed without things getting too hectic.

WI 3~4 depending on the ice and traffic throughout the season.... [Read More]

photo Seems to be granite and conglomerate that dominate this river bed. Most boulders are either in the river or on it's shore. Some of the rocks have water under them [in the spring] (perhaps they'd be climable in the fall?), and nearly all of them are covered in lots of moss. there are cool traverses, atleast one steep overhang with the possibility of really difficult routes, lowballs and highballs, and a number of cool problems, although most of them have never been touched, and are well vegetated.... Hwacheon Ice Park

photo Climb ice north of the 38th parallel! 60m of vertical ice created by pumping water from the river. A 30m high section on the climber's left. There is a stairway to the top for creating top rope anchors. Pretty far from Seoul so it is a lot less crowded than Pandae. Cool roadblocks on the drive there all set to blow in the event of an invasion.... [Read More]

photo The prominent rock you'll see if you visit Ipseoksa (temple) is just the "tip of the iceberg", so to speak. Strolling along the boardwalk around the rock, you'll see some old pitons and evidence of early (aid?) ascents. The climbing is actually below this. Walk just beyond the turnoff to the rock and head down (if you continue straight instead of down when the path turns to dirt, you'll get to an ancient stone=carved Buddha relief). There are a handful (5?) bolted routes (10d, 11b, 12a, 10b, 10c) and some cracks (some with wooden wedges jammed ... [Read More]

photo Overhanging granite face (with some features/cracks); all routes on the "red face" require significant aid climbing (OK, one was freed by Son Chung-Jun and Son Sang-Won), though primarily AO bolt ladders. It's overhanging and very exposed. Bolts and anchors are solid and slings seem to be changed fairly regularly, but the routes are used often and the slings are "aided on", so some extra slings and a knife might not be a bad idea.

There are 4 routes on the face, from left to right, 1) KyoDae "take turns" p1 12b/AO,25m p2 AO bolt ladder,30m p... [Read More]

photo this place is basically a huge maunfactured ice wall. some folks have taken the time to rig a piping system that takes water from a nearby river to form a huge waterfall over a 60-70m rock face. in the winter, this waterfall freezes into some fat ice for some rad climbing.... [Read More]

Add photos of MANDO
this is a small basement gym in the MANDO dormatory, in the city of MUNMAK. it is about 3.5 meters high, maybe 13 meters long, and 5 meters wide (those are all guesses). from vertical to overhung.
it is a non-profit gym (which means you probably won't have to pay, but it is tricky to get in, at first). if you want to go, you should contact someone who may perhaps know one of the climbers there. another option is just going there and talking to the security guard (or perhaps running into a climber). None of them speak English (some a tiny ... [Read More]

 photo rock type: granite

style: crack, face, slab, overhang

excellent rock quality. solid granite. nice cracks with room for bomber pro. beautiful golden slabs, bolted for your pleasure.

bomber bolted belay stations with some bolts for protection on the south wall plus lots of places for natural pro.

the north wall is not as tall, but boasts some nice sport pitches right over a stream. bolts and anchors are solid.... [Read More]

This artificial ice wall was initially sponsored by Trango a few years ago. It is roughly 40M plus in length. There are trees and the sort to fix you anchors.... [Read More]
