Bu Chae Bawi
Submitted on May 21st, 2006 by mp31bravo Type: Rock Climbs    Province: Gyeongsangnam-Do    City: Busan
photo Near Dae Ryuk Bong in Busan. In fact, the directions are almost the same, save for a few minor details. The rock is granite, and there are two sides to the rock, one is the North Wall, and one is the South wall. 27 routes in all, which range from easy 5.8 to a 5.12a. Had I not purchased the Rock Climbing Guide (in Korean), I never knew this gem would have existed. It's face climbing with some cracks to jam your fists. The bolts are pretty new, but I have found some ancient ones from years gone by. There is also a great bouldering area during th... [Read More]

Bueongsae Rock
Submitted on September 26th, 2007 by skinsk Type: Rock Climbs    Province: Gyeongsangnam-Do    City: Miryang
photo Vertical to overhanging, with some nice edges and crimpers and small roofs. On the low end, there are two 6m easy climbs-- a 5.7 and a 5.9, another short 10a and a 20 meter 10a--after that the routes get longer and harder (to a 29m 13b, one of three 5.13's in this rather compact crag!). There are 20 routes total; several share anchors. The names and grades are written at the base.

A Sport-y(capital S)-sport gem in an area better known for old trad, aid and ridge lines, it reminds me a little of Halmae Bawi, though it backs up to a romantic ... [Read More]

Busan Climbing Center
Submitted on March 12th, 2007 by skinsk Type: Gyms    Province: Gyeongsangnam-Do    City: Busan
photo It doesn't look like much from the outside-- easier to miss than to find, almost-- but it's a pretty nice place, with friendly people. It's long and narrow, with walls of varing steepness.

1 month is W60,000 (there are many membership options that bring down the price--see photo of options list). Once you join, you have access to the gym anytime.

Most weekends or at least Sunday they go to nearby outdoor climbing areas. They offer lessons in various climbing disciplines. Opened in 1999 by Pak Jeong-yong 010-4593-4339 (Korean)... [Read More]

Busan Sport Climbing Center
Submitted on May 6th, 2008 by skinsk Type: Gyms    Province: Gyeongsangnam-Do    City: Busan
photo Amazing new gym (opened 3/2008) in downtown Busan. It's attached to a climbing school and Busan Mountaineering research center. Hot showers, conference rooms, lots of walls with new holds, exercise machines, extensive library. . . W40,000/month (less for students and cheaper if you pay for several months in advance) It's open Monday-Sat, 10-10.... [Read More]

Byeong Ho Sportclimbing Gym
Submitted on October 9th, 2009 by NinaNunaNac Type: Gyms    Province: Gyeongsangnam-Do    City: Ulsan
photo Wondrous rock climbing gym, tucked away in an indiscreet basement near Ilsan Beach in Ulsan. The owner, Byeong HO, is extremely hospitable and speaks a fare amount of English. This Gymís allure is obvious in the pictures; the grandiose SIZE!! You can traverse to your heartís content and your poor dedoís disdain. The gym opens around 2 and closes around 10:30 or 11, open Mon.-Fri (outdoor climbing on the weekends and he is happy to take leaching, gearless Wagukins, JOY). These hours are extremely flexible and usually cater to his regulars. ... [Read More]

Dae Ryuk Bong
Submitted on April 17th, 2004 by Eric Type: Rock Climbs    Province: Gyeongsangnam-Do    City: Busan
photo There are about 30 really fun climbs here. Not sure what the rock is but it kind of looks like granite. Anyway, most of the climbs are very facey with lots of small crimpers and flakes. A few of the routes are pretty long, but a 50 meter rope will get you to the top of most of them. The bolts and anchors are pretty good.... [Read More]
